I hate writing assignments for which the premise is" Liken your college experience to the resettlement experience of the refugee families of Clarkston". DO I LOOK LIKE A REFUGEE?! HAS MY FAMILY BEEN BRUTALLY MURDERED OR IMPRISONED UNJUSTLY?!?! I just went back to school,fuck....

This is the kind of assignment you need to have fun with and damn the consequences.
"I barely survived. My ragged clothes chafed painfully as I paced, torn with dread. In anger I lashed out and the phone lay broken on the floor, wires ripped from the wall. The paper had to be 20 pages long. I was reminded of the refugee families of Clarkston. I envied their carefree lives, their simple joys..." and so forth.

Mind you, I took a few poetic "liberties"

after going to today's advising practicum and going to some sessions with prospective soc majors, soc majors, and alums, i think i'm too cynical to be a soc major. also i'm getting bored with school and starting to not give a fuck about anything except my art classes and sociology readings. sigh.

I'm so bad at motivating myself to do work! It's not so bad with normal coursework because I just hammer out an all nighter the day before it's due and get an ok mark, but this year I have a year-long individual project and I don't even really know what to do with it and I've done pretty much nothing in 6 weeks and I'll definitely fail if I leave it to the last minute but even if I knew what to do I couldn't be bothered.

I'm in the same boat as you for schoolwork. I have a big assignment due tomorrow, and of course I haven't started it yet. I thought about it yesterday, but I decided I'd do it this morning instead. Obviously that didn't happen, so I'll be up late tonight.

I'm actually following the reverse of my usual work-motivation curve this semester. I started out generally jaded and not giving a fuck and now I'm getting organized and starting to get my ass into gear. Maybe it was the year off from hell or the meds are finally working, or a combination of the two.

How you like those santokus compared to a regular chef's knife?

Re: The spite, hate, rage, apathy and mild irritation thread
Not easy for me to compare cause I don't really use chef's knifes. All the house knives at work are dull as fuck (cheap NSF food service) chef's knives and I hate them all.
That said; I feel like a Santoku will do everything a chef's knife will do; with a few exceptions like cutting bigger items and that really just requires a bigger knife which chef's knives usually are.
I like the broad blade of the Santoku for picking food up. It works great for mincing herbs, garlic and shallots. I pretty much use my Shun for 95% of my tasks and the other 5% are tasks that would dull my knife,....and I'd rather do that with a shitty house knife
I like how compact the Santoku is without loosing it's functionality. I work in a pretty small kitchen, with a small line and having a sword for a knife just takes up space IMO. I try to be as organized and clean as possible on the line,...but that's not always easy to do if you are getting railed. A smaller knife is easier to deal with in tight spaces.
The only thing I really require of a knife is that it is sharp as fuck and will hold on edge well. Shuns do that and do that well. My knife is probably the sharpest in the house,....which is probably why the sound of it cutting my fingernail off hurt more than the actual cutting my fingernail off.
