How'da'cha like demo vids?
yosu!
so, when looking up demo's for pedals you're interested on the YouToobs, what tickles you the most? seems like the three elements that most of them break down into is......
01) playing to show off what each knob/setting does, focusing on explaining all the possibilities.
02) playing to show cool things that you can do in a more musical setting, like jamming fun riffs that exploit the MAD AWESOME TOANZ.
03) talkety talkety. sometimes cat's charm shines through, sometimes they just come across as tools.
for me, Aen's video's have the best combo of all that. he knows his shit, that comes across, he's just an adorable fluffle of humor, and he drops tasty licks.
what does it for y'all?

Gear wire demos because I don't care what the pedal is as long as I can make fun of Dan Agusto being confused by it.

Re: How'da'cha like demo vids?
I like my demos heavy on 02, with a little 01 thrown in and very light on the 03. Let the pedal do the talking. Demo-ers that try to be funny rarely are, so make with the noise and save the comedy for open-mike night. Also, if you are demo-ing a unique pedal and have a bass handy, make a demo featuring what the pedal sounds like on bass.

So much this
It's really a blend of things. Fun riffs that cover the range of knobbies! I really wanna hear how messy (read: dirty/mean) it gets, what the clipping is like, **HOW IT STACKS WITH OTHER PEDALS**, but if it's uncharming and bland, who the hell's gonna watch it? My views counts are a perfect example of this

Re: How'da'cha like demo vids?
lol. gotcha. i always vacillate on whether to stay with just one effect or add a couple in. like, sometimes i've watched demo's, and i'm trying to hear a dirt, but there's a delay and a reverb and an od running at the same time.
Fossily Robbily - see, that's where i'm stuck. i SUCK at guitar, can hack my way through bass'un's a little. so any time i do a demo vid, it's only gonna be on one instrument.

Re: How'da'cha like demo vids?
I like 02 the most actually, isn't the point of a pedal that's used for your guitar meant for.... music? I can't expalin how many times I disregarded a pedal without taking into account how awesome it can be in a different setting. A great demo-er should be able to do that for me since I'm a lazy bum and not wealthy enough for some trial-and-error shit.

Re: How'da'cha like demo vids?
Depends on the pedal. If it's something like an overdrive/normal pedal, I want to hear it in a musical sort of context, like playing songs with it, but if it's something that can do crazy stuff I want to hear friggin crazy noises. Aen's videos do it for me too, perfect blend of experimenting, cool songs and being pretty funny, plus the recordings are high quality which is always good.

Re: How'da'cha like demo vids?
Doing a demo video is really tricky. It's got to be reasonably short, and yet show off a range of settings, and also there needs to be some type of expository element to tell the viewer what is going on.
I think it's cool to hear a pedal all by itself through a clean amp. But it's also nice to hear a pedal "in context". Presumably you aren't going to be using any given pedal all by itself (at least not most of the time). But then again, what other effects to you use? Everybody's rig is different. It's tough!

Door number 2, show off what you can use the pedal for. As for the multiple pedals, just split the video up. Do one by itself for a few minutes then another where you combine it whatever it is you combine it with. That's one of the strong points of Kayzer's demos, lots of combinations.
Your Xerograph demo is probably my favourite of yours. Also the FrantaBit video where you go oblitraaaattteeee, gold.

Re: How'da'cha like demo vids?
sweeeeeet. i prefer the 2nd focus too. What Knobby Does What way appeals to my geekiness, but hearing somebody do a demo and get some crazy shit out of a pedal gives me way more lust for the bugger.
thanks!
thanks!

Re: How'da'cha like demo vids?
i hate hardcore "da blues" demo's that prove nothing. annoys the fuck out of me when i wanna see a distortion pedal that some 50 year old guy is playing on a vintage les paul and an amp that costs as much as my car playing blues to some obnoxious backing track

Re: How'da'cha like demo vids?
as long as it isnt just blues jammin and talk about how much it sounds like a tube screamer its all good.
but i hate it when some drown out a cool dirtbox with loads of delay, not in the keyser sense, more like in the danny whatshisname sense.
GMD is cool but lame. PGS Andy is awesome, he makes me wanna buy stuff.

i like and hate pgs andy at the same time. for example, "i'm playing a Giffin buttfucker into a 65 amps douchenozzle, so you can really distinguish how much more expensive my gear is than yours". that being said, he demo's the gear well.

Yeah and he is a coward for never really letting things rip, i mean, a fuzz pedal does feedback and squeel, allot! Its part of the flavor.
