Any Depeche Mode fans?

Post by Ryan »

Been a big fan of Depeche Mode for a long time... I think they taught me everything I know about synthesizers and reverb and dammit that's a pretty special education.

They've got a new cd coming out in April.. anybody still interested in what those characters are up to? My favourite albums are probably Violator or Songs of Faith and Devotion but I always like the new cds too... I just like those guys.. :idk:

I'm a fan. They're way more influential than they get credit for.
Shout out to Vince Clarke for being a real pioneer on the first record (Speak and Spell)....even though the others eventually picked up the ball and ran with it once he left the band.

I'm all about 'Black Celebration' and 'Some Great Reward'.

I wouldn't call myself a fan, but I definitely dig quite a few songs of theirs. "Policy of Truth" is definitely my fav.

I wouldn't call myself a fan, but I definitely like the band. An ex-girlfriend of mine is a HUGE fan (from the same town they're from), and she got me into them. I'm very much into the Violater, Songs of Faith & Devotion and Ultra period; I thought Exciter was a drop in form, but Playing the Angel brought them back on track.

Have you heard the new single, "Wrong"? Pretty promising, and has a suitably weird video to go with it...

I'm not really a fan,but I was born in 1981,and these few songs take me back to my earliest childhood, which is a good place to be.I never really got into them, but i appreciate them for what they are. They are actually visiting Belgrade soon, but I'm too broke to see my fave bands even... :(

I didn't get them back in the day, but have become a fan since college... I don't consider myself an expert on their catalog, though, so I'm at the mercy of "proper" fans who know way more than me...

Cool videos posted, thanks! I've always been kind of a hit or miss fan of the band.. they have some songs that are just amazing and some I think are kind of unlistenable... complicated characters on and off stage I suppose.

I've been listening to the new cd over the last couple days and I feel the same about it as their last 2 new cds and probably all of their cds, I guess... some gooders, some skippers... I think that Wrong song is one of the best on it.

I agree that they're very influential, I think a lot of bands have learned a lot from them... synths, guitars, and singing is just a great format for me. One band I've been listening to lately that reminds a lot of the things I like about Depeche Mode is called IAMX. (I don't know if it's I AM X or smooshed altogether.. I do the smoosh.)

Anybody got any cool bands with a DM vibe that should be chatted about a bit?

-Ryan

PS - For a new fan or curious listener, I think you should start with Violator... I think songs like World In My Eyes, Personal Jesus, Halo, and Enjoy The Silence represent some of the best things about the band.
