Stepdown Transformers

Post by tuffteef »

does anyone know how close u can push stepdowns like watts rating
i know u have to leave some lets say headroom if it has a motor

the tube verb im getting according the doc work is 45w max but i have a 50watt isolated stepdown around the house that im hoping i can use

and also whats the deal with non isolated and isolated
worth the extra cash?

All transformers are isolated. Some are designed to REALLY isolate-- like in the event of high voltage spikes. But in normal operation, they're all isolated.

There are some that only use 1 winding that aren't isolated (autotransformers), but that's probably not the case here.

I'd probably want something with a little more headroom, personally, unless you're -really- sure 45W is the most it'll draw.

I'd imagine it has a fuse on the power supply... do you have the specs on that?

specs wise im just going off this
http://support.fender.com/manuals/guitar_amplifiers/63_Fender_Reverb_manual.pdf

and i have the 50 watt from here for my space echo that i use that works a treat
but they have like economy and isolated step downs as they say
im always suspicious of fearmongering upsales saying if you dont buy this your house will burn down  and whether its even worth it

Oh... I thought he was talking about a power transformer for the tube reverb itself. I thought it was sorta weird that it was using a step down. Heh. That's why I asked about the fuse in the power supply...

Although I -did- mention autotransformers. : p

oh sorry.

isolated is "safer" but i think 50 watt of either is ok for you. on the site it doesn't show a 50 watt auto? it only shows a link to buy iso, unless im looking at the wrong thing.

you can get a nice internal transformer for less than $30 USD

I never liked using international power converters. more clutter, more risk, more heat, more wasted electricity. and yes its all bullshit sales talk until your house burns down. if we start out by assuming that its all bullshit than how do know when someone is seriously trying to warn us? I want people to get into DIY and save money BUT if your not careful you can hurt yourself or burn down your house. this is also true for what power converters you buy. thats why I say do lots of research on the right way to work with mains wiring and just do it internal. if you have any questions, post them here before you power it on. PLEASE DONT DIE OR START A FIRE

woooooooooah hold up. read the manual. there is a 230V version from fender. all you need to do is order the transformer from fender and change the end of the power cable.
