surprisingly awesome shit?
so i was killing time in guitar center and grabbed an epi sg jr, because it was in satin black and who doesn't like satin black anyway. turns out it sounds pretty much like you'd expect, but it feels great - super easy to play. i found the neck incredibly comfortable. so i said fuck it and bought the thing for $120.
now i just have to find a nice replacement humbucker.
what was the last piece of gear you played that you expected to suck balls but didn't?

The pickups in my 60's Kawai sound open and clear, I really like them. Well, they sound like that until you turn up some kind of gain.

The classic Vibes are no joke. I am thinking about getting the jazz bass myself.

I had a CV Thinline Tele and it was straight legit. Pickups were way nicer than my MIM.

Hey! Let's talk about serious thing. We're gonna talk about guitar, dude.

My vintage modified j and p basses, DD-20, and whammy. I honestly expected to trade them in later for something better. They serve their purposes very well though, and I really don't see replacing them for a long time.

I didn't expect the Lunchbox to sound as good as it did...

Likewise. Not perfect, but much, much better than I ever expected.

Re: surprisingly awesome shit?
i went in today and played the gibson melody maker sg, which seemed closest to the epi i got (single humbucker, satin finish)
the gibson sounded nicer, but it felt like i was playing a fucking cheese grater. what the fuck, gibson?
