So, Pharaoh on Bass?

Post by theavondon »

Haven't heard much about it on bass, though I've heard nothing but praise for it on guitar and doom guitar (which, I guess, is essentially bass). So, anybody tried it? any results? Thoughts? Comments? Questions? Concerns?

And, I did a search, but the search for "pharaoh bass" ignored the word "bass". :erm:

Sounds killer! My brother uses it on bass and it slays but not ultra high gain. Still sounds mean as fuck, lets those lows flow. Stacks really well too so you can give it some extra oomph with a Fuck or whatever OD you've been using.

Recently witnessed Jonathan from Torche and Corey from Kylesa use 'em live with excellent results as well.

I've got an extra one kicking around, PM me if you wanna borrow it for awhile, give it the ol' test run?

Pharaoh on bass? Hell yeah. That and the Hoof are my two favorite Muff variants - been swapping them on and off of my bass board. No low end loss whatsoever. :thumb:

Pharaoh = :!!!: on bass (the not so ultra high gain allows the punch and clarity to cut through)
LSTR = on bass (super low ultra fuzzy mayhem.... but doesnt cut like the pharaoh)
I've tried both on bass and found that which one fits best is all in your kind of tone, if you like to cut through and have clarity but want some raw grit while retaining the low end the pharaoh is perfect, if you want super low end, nasty fuzzy mayhem that blends well with the guitar to form one super wall of sound i prefer the lstr... just my .02

My bassist borrowed my pharoah about three months ago...he loves it. Didn't think I would ever get it back from him so I just gave it to him for his birthday. Anyway, it sounds great on bass.

I was using the Pharaoh on bass but switched to the LSTR. You can get the same sounds on the Pharaoh but it's easier on the LSTR. Plus, I put the Orange Whip compressor from Henretta after the fuzz and it's awesome.

Here's one I recorded on bass. Me twiddling the knobs and my friend playing the ratm lick or whatever it is.
We used my warwick 5 string and my Electric NMV180 into a mesa diesel loaded with emi neo c2515s.

I saw this picture of Hendrix, all he used was a wah.... And not even the Jim Dunlop Jimi Hedrix wah, just some old thing.....
Jimi didn't realise the horrible tone suck we had to listen to every time he used that wah.

The dual tone control is a great part of this box.
There is a character limit.

The Pharaoh is a kickass pedal, but it can also sound (dare I say) generic.

I sold mine (should have recorded a demo first) but I MUCH prefer the LSTR. It's more my thing - sizzly, high gain, and ballsy.

Pharaoh worked great on bass, but switching from GE to SI has a HUUGE spike in volume.
