Help me pick out a ukulele...?

Post by Dr. Sherman Sticks M.D. »

anybody know what people/brands make good ones?

searching on google/ebay brings up anything from super cheapy kids toys to pretty expensive like Fender, Ibanez' and the like.

I don't want to spend a lot (less than $100 maybe?)
but I don't want to buy a cheap piece of crap that doesn't stay in tune/sounds like shit/etc. that will basically end up being of no use or worth to me.

bonus points for cool aesthetics

:idk: :poke:

These guys are cool This is where I buy all my strings just because they are friendly.
There are lots more places to pick up a ukulele just add Hawaii to your search. All the good ones are made out here.
Also check hawaii craigslist you may be able to find one and if they wont send it I may be able to for ya.
pm me if you find anything on Oahu.

I like Kala...mainland and ohana are also worth a look.
You can get some nicer stuff if you are willing to go up to $200-275 though the cheaper Kalas are still pretty nice.
There are some that call me...morningstaru?

If you get Kala, replace the tuning heads. Keeping Uke's in tune is a huge problem for the cheaper brands. I see it all the time with my students, also make sure to check the nut isn't too high on a Kala, often another problem.
great trades with: Lintybits, smallsnd/bigsnd, bennybanana, julius_deane, bass_econo, rustywire, jbf3, Dandolin, goroth, devnulljp, Helter, Justinm1789, Inconuucl, NDominy, Uncle Grandfather

i particularly like this site b/c they say they do a nice setup on your instrument before they ship it out to you, and they have a pretty wide selection.

that or i may just get the $20 spongebob ukulele at my local toys r us. lol

always loved the great wave graphic, but not sure if i like it on the uke
