so I've been given some speakers for free from a friend of mine, they each are like 4 ohms and I was wondering how I could hook these up to my epiphone valve jr. (which already has it's own 16 ohm speaker)
now, they're like car speakers that were brought for a car but never used is it still worth trying to use them as extra cabs for my amp? how would i hook them up without fire or breaking the amp? anyone wanna help an amp noob out? haha
You'd need to connect 4 in series, then disconnect the VJ's speaker.
I've read that there's an 8 ohm tap on the Valve Jr's transformer that's just not used. If you used said 4 speakers in series, and put them in parallel with the stock speaker, you could use that tap. Or, if you don't have 4 of the speakers, you could use two of them in series without the stock speaker.

forgot to mention that the valve jr combo i have has an 4ohm an 8ohm and 16ohm speaker sockets for speakers.

wire the two speakers you have in series: + (O) - connect + (O) -
and connect them the remaining wires (+ of the first speaker and - of the second) to the 8 Ohm socket on your amp.
cool, I'll try this as soon as I get hold of some speaker wire haha, I also assume that i have to remove the 16 ohm speaker that's connected to the amp at the minute?
hooked them up, they sound ok, very bassey and very quiet, I think I can't really use them with my amp, good chairs for the time being until I can think of something to use them for (laptop speakers possibly) thanks for all the suggestions though!
