Junkyard is awesome. I just got turned onto them a year or so ago because I'm a big Oxbow fan.

If you like Birthday Party, you'll love Oxbow.

Listen to Oxbow.

I will. I love Junkyard.

Average playlist for a day: Junkyard, then Head by TJL, and then 400 Blows.

Like the movie?

Also, TJL kicks ass. You do good research, padawan.

2nd Also, since they just came up in another thread, listen to Harvey Milk.

I think Nick cave resucitated the spirit of the birthday party when he formed Grinderman...

'Tis cool.

Oxbow fans - what is the one song (or album or whatever) that made you get into them? I like it, but I haven't found THAT THING that makes me obsess about it/need to hear it again and again and again..

I never got as much into anything Nick Cave did later either (including Grinderman). I love Prayers on Fire the most, possibly.

That thing was probably seeing Eugene do his thing live. The man is a seriously impressive fellow.

As for recorded output, here's a couple I really enjoy:

You really gotta listen to the snake & the stick as one track, though.

HUGE Nick Cave fan. Birthday Party, Bad Seeds, Grinderman. All are mindblowing on different levels.

Junkyard is awesome, but Mutiny and The Bad Seed are also fantaaaaaaaastic.

Prayers On Fire is pretty good, but I'm a much bigger fan of all Nick Cave's later stuff (like da biggest fan). I really like what The Birthday Party were doing in spirit, but I find it a bit hard to listen to a lot of the time, it seems like early Bad Seeds/Grinderman go for a similar aesthetic sometimes but with better tunes. I bet it would have been really cool to see them live though, the Bad Seeds and Grinderman were both amazing when I saw them, but The Birthday Party live must have been crazy.

Every album Nick Cave has done are very good except Dig Lazarus Dig.
I think Nick Cave + Mick Harvey was an awesome team.

I think it's worth noting a friend of mine nicknamed his equipment "nick cave and the bad seeds."

Live '81-'82 is the rulingest.

Scratch Acid is more Birthday Party-ish than TJL, but yeah...David Yow was definitely jammin' some Prayers On Fire down in Texas.
Maybe partying will help.
