set and forget, bump proof knobs do they exsist?

inner knob of hard plastic or metal
outer knob of rubber (should be removeable)
Means you need to make a standard knob that has an insert (like a pem) in the top
A larger outer knob
A rubber Shroud
and then a washer and screw that would allow the rubber shroud to spin freely but lock on when squeezed.

I have some sil pad material in my desk that might work
and I think the initial one could be build with a self tapping screw but the risk there is screwing it into the knob shaft

I have ball tonight but I can try this tomorrow probably.

I think I could get most of what is needed molded in China provided i could find the right rubber,

Haven't done any costing yet but would anyone be interested in these knobs if they worked??

If you made them to just glue on to existing knobs it would be pretty simple and you could call them knobdoms.

You can buy those pots. They're made by Alps. You'd need small knobs and a mounting bracket, but it shouldn't be super hard to add them to a normal pedal.

I'll see if I can come up with part numbers.

They're the "Single-shaft with push-lock mechanism type." Just copy and paste the part number-- but I noticed Mouser doesn't stock them, and they're really expensive.

Another way of doing it is with digital pots, you could also do things like save presets as well. Something like on the pog2 etc.

yes thats a good suggestion, it requires more electrical parts but you can get push button encoders for ~ $1 - $1.50 and do exactly what you wanted, which is make it so you have to push the shaft down for the changes to take effect.

another somewhat similar alternative is using analog pots feeding an mcu that controls the digital pot ics. then add a "lock" switch or something such that the mcu ignores new updates from the analog pots when locked. This way you can still use 50 cent pots.

you could use the mcu to capture "sequences" on the analog pots too. then play back those sequences haha. probably a lot of gear does this, for example there is a pot like that on the korg electribe i have. iirc the hallow earth does something similar.

It's not really a true solution, but some of the screw-on type knobs are hard to move if you just loosen them, press them down as far as they go, and re-tighten. It seems to be most common in my experience with the barrel style ones like on Fuzzhugger pedals; I'll have to raise them up a bit or it's not a smooth motion.

I would think just wedging something squishy under the knob would hold it in place.

Maybe get some rubber rings the right thickness/diameter, and cut it so you can open it and put t around the knob, then shove it underneath.
