"sleeper" pedals

Pedals you think are awesome, that not a lot of other people like- I think they're called sleepers...
for me, DOD Envelope Filter. Most filters try to sound exactly like a wah, but this one makes you sound weird and crazy. It's great for playing slap guitar/bass (yes, there is such a thing as slap guitar)

definatelly the DODs! maybe the DFX94. years ago I would of also said the digitech PDS series from the 80s but they've been gaining a lot of popularity.

DOD Extreme Flanger....some number/letter combo. It was bright sparkle green and it sounded awesome. If it wasn't buffered bypass I would've kept it.

GFX 75. I think it's just a chinese version of the FX 75C.

People say the GFX are different...

Either way, I love that pedal. It's mine now.

I bought a digitech pds1002 two-second delay in the early 2000's for around $90 on Ebay.

I was hoping to sell it for around that much, maybe $100, but last Sunday some guy in Japan bought it on ebay for $177 (plus $30 shipping).

I love sleeper pedals. Half of my collection is sleepy.

DOD has a ton of sleepers. My favorite is the FX75-B Stereo Flanger. It has internal trim pots that when tweaked can make waves upon waves of bit crushing.



The MXR Micro Amp (maybe not a sleeper?) is one of the best boost/overdrives hands down period infinity.



The Digitech Synth Wah. Angry, hungry robot dinosaurs.



The EHX Double Muff is one of the best overdrive/fuzzes out there. When teamed up with another fuzz this guy is TROUBLE.



Effector 13 Jerry's Pot. I've geeked out about this guy enough. The simplest things are sometimes the most useful.



The Artec Analog Delay is hella cheap and sounds super gorgeous. Worth the $40 new these things go for. Sheesh.



I've had an Ibanez DL5 soundtank since the beginning of time and I've never been able to part with it. Guess it just kind of became my default delay sound.



The Ibanez PM7 is a must for noisemakers. The maximum settings on this thing sound like some kind of sick ring mod nightmare. Seriously a force to be reckoned with.

Lotsa dods... I want the Punkifier. No one cared about the Boss VB-2 whie it was being made and a couple bands (Blur, Wilco) started to use them and then the prices skyrocketed!

I was just talking about it with someone who was raging about it the other day. I don't own one, but I play them wherever music stores have them and I can't get enough.

i had a DOD phaser back in the day that was incredible. i sold it when i went thru a (very brief) no pedal phase and really wish i wouldn't have!

Imma add the Ibanez Metal Screamer-- dunno how it works when you use it like you use a real Tube Screamer, but it's pretty bitchin' as a bass distortion! I use it for ligher overdrives on guitar, too (but I play guitar through my bass amp).

I kinda like my Digitech Grunge too. Dunno what makes it different from the old DODs (since I've never used one), but it's a beast to put in the front of my chain and get amazing feedback.

I accidentally ripped a few components off the circuit board... not sure what they do, but it still sounds awesome.

My Akai Hexacomp - it's a 6-band EQ/comp pedal, and I have no idea how it does what it does, but it makes my bass sound as though it were strung with 1-inch thick steel cables (i.e. HUGENORMOUS). I bought it used, and apparently the previous owner was a guitar player who swore it didn't do anything for him... I've never tried it on guitar, though, so maybe it's one of those pedals that only shines on bass...
