Ring mods don't always have to sound like ringing bells. If you turn the carrier frequency down low to where it's just a bit too fast to be a tremolo, that's what it sounds like.
However, even when you have the carrier higher up in the chimey-bell territory, it can still be musical. Listen to the opening riff by Omar in Eriatarka
