It's a tremolo with some slight movement (phasing), not really a vibrato...but if it works for you

it seems that Vox discontinued the whole "CoolTron" series (goofy name).... so you'll have to search for a VibraVox used. They pop up on ebay with some frequency, and are usually not very expensive. I think i paid about 1/3 of what a new one listed for! Well worth it and i'm using it a lot.

'S'cool. Definitely didn't mean you should check anything out because it'll make you sound like the Beatles--that was just a random tangent based on my noticing that these gear demoers seemed to equate pitch vibrato with 1967 Beatles, and the two videos were right next to each other 'n' all and erm. I liked the track you linked to. I'd love to hear what you do with a Sea Machine and Vibrothang together.

Does anyone know of a nice square-wave shaped vibrato effect? Don't you think that'd sound mental? :animal: Especially if the 'depth' control was very wide... I always thought pitch-changers like the Whammy should get into that kind of thing... (But hey, that's just me).

First off, love your stuff!

Second--you wouldn't be yankin' our chain now wouldja? :poke:

Third, far as I know, standard answer around these parts to that very question is still Midfi Electronics Pitch Pirate plus the aforementioned Earthquaker Devices Sea Machine, EHX Memory Boys with the delay turned down, and Malekko Omicron with depth turned way up gets near (but not all the way to) square. Erm, yeah, but I say Pitch Pirate. Really want to try a Sea Machine some day, though, for easier access to less demented tones.

Thanks!!!

No I'm serious - I think some square wave - maybe via a non-latching on/off switch would be well tasty... Kind of 'futuristic' in a retro-synthy way. I was thinkin 'bout making one... But meanwhile I'll go investigate those you mentioned.

BTW with optical tremelos (volume-changing), I always think the LED/LDR takes a moment to do what they're told, so with a 'square-wave' version there's always a tiny slope up and down. Now a non-optical one, snapping immediately to up and down - that'd sound... severe! :excellent:

Sea Machine is GREAT for squarewave vibrato, it can actually be kinda nice or completely ridiculous jumping everywhere. But yeah it's also very easy to dial in lovely chorus/vibe/slapback.

Ring Thing might be able to do that.
