songwriting help

Im trying to actually finish songs and create something thats a whole, lyrics and music.I have a ton of lyrics ive written, and lots of song ideas But i can never seem to add lyrics to music or vice versa, or finish anything. Anyone got any tips? How do u all write songs?

Music usually first. I think it's easier to fit lyrics to music than the other way around.

with a lot of lyrics print them all out, and cut the lines out into strips. pick a song, and reach into the hat for your lyrics. make it fit. good exercise and you may be surprised with the way it falls into place.

Brian Eno used to record the music for an album, record himself singing nonsense over it and then convert that into lyrics. Most of the time they didn't even make sense in the end.
