DC in the rain, cold and gray. The population, already late, rushing as if by moving faster some how they will arrive on time.
I stand in Arlington, honoring a fallen veteran. Laid to rest among heroes.
The smell of wet earth and uniforms. My daughter is presented the flag that draped her grand fathers casket. And I feel the way I only feel for that ceremony.
Later I think about my own mortality and ponder if I want to be interred in Arlington.
I am not a hero, I have known heroes and had the honor and privilege of serving with heroes.
I have fought in war, but do I deserve to lie with fallen heroes?
Will I sit in Valhalla amongst singing warriors or some where else?
And I wonder if the halls of long forgotten sleeping gods still ring with the tales of fallen warriors?
