thats 4.57 Ohms and yes it can take it. you should fiberglass the hole. it will sound way better than slapping a square of plywood over the hole with 4 drywall screws.

Ugh, just gave it a shot. there are at least 3 rattling speakers. I think my best option ATM is an overhaul. Spacious 4x10 or something.

SWR made a bass cabs in the 90s that had 8s SWR Henry 8x8 [36" x 22 1/2" x 18"]

I have one! Unfortunately the previous owner blew a speaker or two and nobody makes a 32 ohm 8" bass speaker anymore. So it is now an 8x8 paperweight.

It sounds good, before you push it at all, or use a fuzz

You could wire up two sets of four 8" 4ohm speakers each in series (4ohms each) and then wire those two sets together in parallel for an 8ohm load like this:

Bump from the grave. I've been trying to find a cheap 2x15 mostly because they look so cool, but I do need a bass cab for new band I'm playing bass in instead of guitar. An 8x8 popped up on CL. Anyone still have experience? I know I like 8x10 cabs well enough. Not sure of the brand or anything unfortunately. I'll figure that out when I check it out.

Shout out to resurrecting a four year old thread that I started because I am finally going to make a 6x8 cab! I just picked up six school intercom/PA speakers that have 8 inch speakers that should work great. Speakers are 8 ohm, 50hz-15khz freq range, rated at 96db at 1w/1m. To make the whole cab 8 ohms though will take some sort of funny wiring: two speakers in parallel (8+8=4) which will then be in series with a single speaker (4+8=12). Then the other three speakers will be in series (8+8+8=24) and then the two sets will be in parallel (12+24=8 ohms)!
