ODD CABS: Think I want a 8x8 or something weirder
I kind of want to build a cool speaker cab. I was thinking 8x8 would be rad but I think it would be a bit tall and tipsy, so i am thinking like a 4x8+4x6 would be cooler. I could build it a bit shorter that way. it would be arranged with the 6" speakers in the middle in sort of a diamond type pattern with two 8s both above and below. whatcha think?
the cab dimensions would probably be about 10x20x30 inches

Or how about a 2x10 + 2x8 + 4x5 cab?!

a 2x10 + 2x8 with mis-matched speakers would be cool - lots of miking options.
like a Celestion G10 Gold + a G10 Greenback + Jensen Alnico & Ceramic 8" speakers!

The problem with a 8inch and maybe even some 10's is that you get no bass. If you have a 4x8 and you simulate the port size, port length, cab size etc in software, you can actually get a lot of bass. Looking at spec sheets is a must but if you salvage, use your ears. There is a huge difference in how a speaker sounds free air vs mounted on a plywood sheet vs mounted in a box. When the baffle is correct, the speaker does what it is engineered to do.
There is a ghetto brute force method of using 1 speaker of each size. Each speaker has its own resonant frequency. So one 12, one 8, one 4. You get the idea. I would not worry about passive xover if all your speakers are full range from tv, radio, casio etc. The guitar band is more narrow than true full range anyway.

SWR made a bass cabs in the 90s that had 8s SWR Henry 8x8 [36" x 22 1/2" x 18"] and Henry Jr. 4x8 [22" wide x 22" high x 16-1/2" deep]. I played through the 8X8 once and it was rather nice. I don't know off hand what the post size is but there are calculators online for that... but.. from what I have seen SWR tends to make their ports a little bigger then what a lot of people think they should be...

i aint portin nothing. id probably just do it old school and rudimentary. if i did 8x8 id probably make it so half the box was split off and it was closed back, other half open back.
i think 8x8 might be a bit big so maybe 6x8 or something would be chiller.

I have one! Unfortunately the previous owner blew a speaker or two and nobody makes a 32 ohm 8" bass speaker anymore. So it is now an 8x8 paperweight.
It sounds good, before you push it at all, or use a fuzz

chop chop chop it down to 6x8 and tolex it. or load it with 8inch jensen guitar speakers. and ebay the 32 Ohm speakers. or build another bass cab. you got options.

IM thinking of just cutting out the blown one or two. I think ye olde Sunn could handle a strange ohmage like that.
