SUB-stitution for Multiplexer
Are there any smaller analog sub-octave generators other than boss offerings that could replace this behemoth masterpiece on my board? Thing is ridonkey.

Re: SUB-stitution for Multiplexer

While i never have had an octave multiplexer, I have had the precursor to this one (mxr bass octave) and I've always loved it.

modtone makes a octave multiplexer clone in a smaller box. but oddly, it costs significantly more! but if the small box is worth it to you then check it out!

Re: SUB-stitution for Multiplexer
from what i was able to Google several reviewers claimed the Modtone was badly made and crapped out after a few months.
some of these i haven't heard, but i checked some when i was looking for something to dep bass parts on my loops. the Guyatone and EBS only do the fuzzy synth bass thing from what i recall hearing on demos.

yeah, I'm seeing that is either a octave fuzz, not analog, or ridiculously more expensive. convenience is a mother fucker.

Is the newer die cast octave multiplexer too big?

Re: SUB-stitution for Multiplexer
I haven't put my hands on it, but from what I've seen it looks it. I just don't see the point of the size for what it does, but then again I know dick about electronics.

+1
the octoplus rules, gets some sweet glitchy ocaves and sounds great slamming into fuzz, I very often wish I had kept mine, my only issue was that it would bleed a little even in bypass.

Actually, the EBS's sub octave is not fuzzy, it's actually quite smooth. Much less wooly than the Boss OC-2.
The newer XO Octave Multiplexer is not as big as you think it is. It's a hammond 1590BB enclosure, something like 4 1/2 by 3 1/2 inches, so basically just an inch wider than a Boss pedal.

Re: SUB-stitution for Multiplexer
the MXR Bass Octave sounds like it might be promising from the Gearmanndude demo on YouTube; it appears to be a bit clangier/less warm than the current Octave Multiplexer, but to track a little better on open strings and low notes. i can't find a decent demo of the Octoplus anywhere.
the thing is, you're not going to save that much space with a DOD pedal as opposed to the current OM, which as noted above is the same size as e.g. a Phantom Ring/Arcade or a two-switch Devi pedal.
