Yeah, I'm gonna grab one of these too, see how it compares to the big box which I sold because of space constraints. Been missing it badly ever since as I could never fully replicate the madness that thing dishes out.

Another bonus with the XO series is 9V power. FINALLY, it won't hog 2 outs on my power supplies.

Wouldn't a higher voltage get crazier sounds?

I think a higher voltage would give the circuit more headroom but the "sounds" should be close regardless. I could be wrong though, we'll see how well EHX matched it to the awesome big box version.

One thing's for sure, they shouldn't have abandoned those old graphics, DAMN IT!!!

The new one uses 9V instead of 24V according to pictures so it'll be a redesign of the circuit using the new 320X Chips i'd have thought (as the 300X become harder to find) the reissue used a 3009 (of which there is no modern available clone) and a 3008 so i'm gunna guess it uses 2 x 3207s... could be closer to the original than the new one actually as that used 2 x 1024 stage BBDs as opposed to the 512 & 2048 stage of the reissue.

Time and gut shots will tell... I was wrong on the Memory Man w/ tap tempo when I didn't think they'd use 3005s... then I was kinda right as they had to stop doing that due to fakes.

They wanted to use 4 x 3005 per pedal... that chip is so obsolete it's not funny and they ended up with a load of fake chips that only had half the delay time so there's about... 3-400 out there.

So they're apparently gunna redesign the circuit to use something else.

I don't mind the new graphics so much, and smaller boxes are nice. But why the hell do EHX still put overload LEDs in their pedals? NOBODY CARES AND IT SOUNDS BETTER OVERLOADED MOST OF THE TIME.

They can, it's just really fucking expensive, the chips we have now are being reproduced from old Panasonic Moulds.

Two companies I know of make them, Beiling & Cool Audio (Division of Behringer) Behringer aren't interested in producing others (the pedals they produce only run on 9V, you only get the benefit of the other chips at higher voltages) and Beiling most likely sell to what remains of the karaoke markets demand (which is what these chips were developed for, pedals are a relatively small market for these people) and for MXR.

So we only get the lower voltage 3205,7 & 7 chips, MXR have 3204s made for them by Beiling but they're not available to the public and that's most likely how it'll stay... even these reproductions wont be around for ever.

I think I saw a quote and it would be like... $50,000 just to put chips back in to production, you have to get the original designs and push them out and yeah... it aint happening... and if EHX wont do it (and they are in large part why tubes still exist after buying out the Soviet tube factories) then I doubt it's gunna happen, it would take all the big effects companies joining together.

At the end of the day it's just tone to us guitarists too... the audience don't know we have the 'wrong' chip in there.

$50,000 isn't that much money, of course you can live with that kind of money for a long while, but I would've expected more like triple that amount at least.. But yeah, if EHX won't invest I see why nobody will invest.. but there will come a time when it will be much cheaper I think.. We can print those chips ourselves in the future,,

50,000 is a lot to these companies (if I even got that price right, you might need to add an extra zero) the pedal market is large but not that large and would they see a big enough return on the investment? I doubt it... and there is nothing wrong with the 320X Series at all, slightly lower headroom but the rest is Mojo.

No it's gunna get more expensive, through hole components are on the way out... prices for components to build pedals are on the rise, everyone is moving to surface mount devices, we'd probably have to buy and run an entire factory.

Yeah... I can't find the thread where I saw the quote... 50,000, 500,000, either way I doubt any one is gunna front it.

I've taken a step back from the EHX cloning, i'm happy that I dug up and redrew a lot of the old unreadable schematics, some people have taken some reigns from me (there's designs/projects coming up for a 3205 Memory Man & a LM13X00 chip Super Space Drum project is now available) but I need extra time and funding, I just don't have money to invest in PCB runs and parts and converting old chips takes a long time and some experience I don't have, plus some times I got the feeling the DIY community didn't have enough interest... also i'm trying to move out of DIYing a bit, I rarely have the motivation to fully finish a build these days (populating and testing a PCB i'm okay with but all the drilling and boxing *shudder*) plus prototyping and designing effects takes a long time...I wanna get my pedal board finished how I want it and start playing my damn guitar.

I did however clone the Attack Decay which was a huge one on my list (as far as i'm aware i'm the first person to ever do it in its 30 or so year history ) so i'm happy it can now be built... hopefully more of that one comes in the future and it may be in the works but once again I require funding as for some reason my prototype died and... well screw debugging a circuit that big with no working voltages so I need to build another (which I will do eventually as I want one on my board).

I also have a PCB for the Zipper envelope filter (original, not tube) but since i've started doing my own PCB layouts, i'm no longer happy enough with the layout to have it produced so it's another hurdle... new layout to be done, new prototypes to be made, runs to be ordered and then hope that enough people want to buy them to make the cash back.

Fun little journey though and I got to speak to the original designer of a lot of the EHX drum effects which was really cool... it's all still in my mind but pushed back a bit for now... we'll see what the future holds.
