Nice. At my last concert my friend's shoegaze band just cranked everything for their last song. You could barely hear the drums. It was fucking epic. so much pain and musical pleasure at once!

yeah, having seen them in september when they played NYC I can tell you that the "holocaust" was one of the most unbelievable and memorable concert moments ever. Total sonic (and visual for that matter) annihilation.

I could go on and on about how amazing that concert was but I'll spare you the book and say that if you EVER get the chance to see them play (and they have dates lined up in the spring) GO.

And thanks to Devi the guitars sounded massive

It's kind of strange to see people going to MBV concert,not expecting this to happen...I mean,who couldn't see that coming,right?

The only band I've seen live that does this kind of thing were Spiritualized,noise intro was about 20 minutes,95 minutes of regular songs,and almost 30 minutes of glorious noise at the end of the show...which then melted into 'things will never be the same'.It was out of this world,really.

It's funny,though...the side effect of noise,beside the fried brain and ears,is that you lose the track of time pretty much...which I personally like,hehe.

BTW,are they finally gonna get the damn record out? I kinda lost interest in them...after almost two decades.I mean,they were one of my fave bands ever,but this is too much time for anyone...mad scientist scenario,haha.And the hype is just getting bigger.I guess that Kevin Shields has found his happy place in not releasing anything but remastered albums...and playing old songs live.

I would love to see them live,though.It's about time

I don't know...Kevin Shields is a lazy dude. I imagine touring again with all sold out shows has made him truly realize the impact that MBV has on so many people, so perhaps that'll be incentive to get this new record out...who knows though, could be another five years.

Either way, they're doing Primavera Sound festival, Coachella, and four or five dates out west, so I doubt there'll be any releases in the very near future...

for what it's worth, standing almost directly in front of one of the subs during that section is truly an experience unlike any other. It goes beyond hearing when your cheeks and pant legs start shaking uncontrollably and you feel nauseous in the best way possible.

yeah i guess there is that, but there also the part were its not really interesting noise, or at least it doesnt seem to have a purpose, or a point....its shocking for shocking sake.
and when its that loud...and that long....i dont know, maybe 30 years ago it would have been cooler...i just feel sorry for all the ears in the crowd.

I dunno, I've read accounts of where after your body get used ot it, you can hear the actual notes they're playing and stuff, like birds chirping...

It was the single loudest thing I have ever experienced. The sound moved my face. My balls retracted. It was like standing in front of the mouth of hell or a nuclear holocaust. If this sounds like fun, you are like me and FUCKED UP. It hurt.

Other random notes / points for discussion among you, the reader:

1. Debbie Googe is a badass.

2. Is the cathartic noise-burst at the end (which you've all probably read or heard about or perhaps even experienced firsthand) really cathartic since we all know its coming. Does this reduce its impact?

3. My Bloody Valentine are a folk band. Their music transfers experience in broad, ambiguous terms utilizing simple chords and melodies.

4. The sound guy (who also does sound for Mogwai) deserves some kind of huge reward for being a brilliant sonic architect.

5. This is not a point of debate but an observation: During the final 20 minute nihilist noise assault I went from excited to tense to happy to sort of depressed to feeling ill to feeling absolutely nothing. It is the closest I have come to complete meditation or a hypnotic state in a long time. I actually did not think at all for about five minutes.

6. Moses noted that "Belinda had the same facial expression when she was staring at the ground playing guitar that a elementary school teacher has when operating a photocopier."

7. Whitney who has never heard of MBV and was dragged to the show by the rest of us looked up to me at one point and silently mouthed the words "what the fuuuuuck" to me. She also smiled a lot before her fucking face melted off.

On one hand I see what's cool/interesting/amusing about this....but as someone who has permanent tinnitus, I see something really uncool about it too.

I believe I have the same problem... I wouldn't trade it for all the awesome musical experiences I've had, I haven't seen MBV though...
