I use OC71's and a 20k or 25k pot. CV7005 is the milspec version. Haven't been tempted to use an overpriced OC44 in ages. You really need to get a couple of trannies because the NOS germanium stuff is so leaky so often. OC71's from mammoth are a good deal, you could use 75's and 81's as well but remember, if the gain is <50 use a 25k pot, if 50-100 hfe go with the 10k pot. I have been using madbeans rangemaster for PCB builds, at $5 it is pretty cheap! If you wanna do it old school just look for the Geofex doc on austin treble blaster and build it on an eylet strip.

If Kel buys from Smallbear he tests the transistors and gives appropriate resistors that match them so leakage wont be a problem.

They're (3PDT's) expensive because we like LED indicators. DPDT are cheaper and will do true bypass just fine, but you might not know what's on or not with a big board. If you do something like R.G. Keen's (Geofex) Millenium true bypass, you may be able to get off cheaper on parts cost with the same function.

Food for thought: the original wasn't a stomper. If you want to go cheaper, that's a way to do it.

also consider a D*A*M Red Rooster clone, it's essentially a rangemaster with a trim pot and filter pot (if i recall correctly) and it uses NPN so you can use it in your daisy chain...

i built one of these using the pigeon fx kit with the tagboard and NOS parts, sounds awesome... but so did the red rooster i built using standard parts i had lying around....

what kind of amp do you use?? i have found it to work well in my AC30 but not so well in ANY solid state amp i've tried so far.... :picard:

here's a pic of my build:

i have extra tag board and caps if you want i'll send them your way....

Yes, i'm ressurecting this post. I need help with something that's actually kind of hillariously basic. How do i solder a universal PCB so that the stuff actually goes somewhere? >.<

make a layout on graph paper or download DIY layout creator. you have the schematic. the circuit is simple with only one transistor. do you need help with reading schematics? making layouts is not that hard. you just gotta try and come back here when you get stuck again.

Do you mean this sort of board?

If so, just use the legs of the components to make the tracks :thumb:

T boosters never sound good through a solid state! Those babies were made to push tubes.
