Love that Slint is what started this thread. My Reese's moment was Husker Du's "Real World". It's an MXR D+ into what sounds like chorus, but is actually some early Digitech Harmonizer. Bob Mould actually did use an Ibanez CS9 later on (I think), but in his recent book he specifically states it was the Digitech on the Metal Circus EP. It's this weird, fuzzed-out, crystalline sort of sound--it sounds even more like the speakers are about to blow up than if it was just the D+.

thats what i love about chorus + fuzz it just makes this harsh industrial sounding thing with (often) JUST the right amount of treble to have harmonic to rival teh damblz

also another fav right now is my cheapo way of getting really good organ sounds:
digitech multifx pitch shift set to 24^ + noise gate for lowered attack into sea machine = electric organ sounds

anyone have any advice on making steel drum sounds?

Oddly, I was messing around with my Ekko 616 set for chorus into my Algal Bloom, just playing a few chords on my bass yesterday. My guitarist looked at me and said "that is perhaps the coolest sound I have ever heard a bass make."

I'm inclined to agree.

My Phantom Octave and/or ABSynth (oscillating) into the Q-Tron are favorites. Playing with the gain/sensitivity of the QT while controlling those Fuzzhuggers with my guitar volume is always fun.

As I don't actually have enough effects to do the kind of sonic experimentation that y'all have talked about (particularly dubkitty -applauds-) any of mine would be stuff I've heard in songs...
There's a guy in a local band who uses fuzz with env. filters and/or phasers quite alot...:thumb: sounds pretty awesome.

Of course, I also love tremolo+fuzz (as long as it's the right kind of trem) and..well..pretty much any kind of modulation effect into (or out of, whichever is more appropriate) fuzz. :idk:

A dark fuzz into huge (infinite plate-y) reverb. Sounds like drowning.

As far as I know just about the only way to get those sounds on guitar are with a flanger that can be 'frozen' (LFO disengaged) with maybe a little reverb or slap-back echo thrown in?

I had a moment like this the last time I jammed with my bandmate while writing our next batch of songs.

fOXX Tone Machine clone -> Behringer BSY-600 (PWM mode) -> chorus

Sounded like a crazy thick detuned multi-oscillator synth. It really is THE bass synth tone I've always been looking for. Now I need to try and not use it on everything.

Can't wait to try some of my fuzz into the BEZFX Street Sweeper (Manual Phaser).
I'm sure it will be awesome!

Fuzz into Cosmichorus (flange like mode or vibrato mode is awsome)!!
Fuzzy Lady (low gain with bias set to gated) > Cosmichorus (vibrato) sound like an organ!!!

the closest i've gotten is ring modulator + chorus. and reverb or delay to taste, of course. the ring mod fucks up the harmonic structure to help simulate the weird overtones of the pans.

Yeah ring mod plus verb and maybe octave, I think I have gotten close running the octave up delay on my time bender with the ring mod. You kindof need the delay or verb to get that bouncy feel (not the best description) of the steel drums.
