Awesome documentary and amazing musician. I hadn't heard of Glenn Gould before but I went to the record store today and bought two albums of his. Check it out if you so please.

You've got to be fucking kidding? Seriously? The definitive Goldbergs ... twice! The man was a total nutter and seriously talented. He should have been a rockstarproroby wrote:I hadn't heard of Glenn Gould before..
Listen to any of the early recordings on headphones and you can hear him singing along the whole time.

Yeah, I love the humming, but I never took any music classes and I don't know that much about classical. I'm reading more about it now. I got a few of his lps now, I really enjoy it. You have any other recommendations for me? Gould or non Gould, some must listen to classical?

Re: Genius Within
I have heard a lot of classical but as I get older I am only interested in the strange and epic works of some people who I consider pioneers. I mostly listen to Rachmaninoff.
http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Sergei_Rachmaninoff
there are some alternate spellings of his name that makes it difficult to search for him. both spellings are used frequently. my favorites of his are
piano concerto no 2
piano concerto no 3
opus 3 (especially Op.3 no. 1 "eligie")
Liszt was very talented and prolific from a young age. he had a style that was right for the period but still instantly recognizable as being his unique style.http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Franz_Liszt
Bela Bartok had a period in the middle of his life where he did atonal or dissonant music. big use of chromatics. people were dieing around him much like the story of edgar alan poe. there is a rage in those quartets. for its time, it was like a GG allen show. or nirvana smashing things. it was crazy and he couldn't get work after it.
