Wah suggestions?

Righty, I'm on the way to what I need to get the GT-10 out from under my feet.

Bought my overdrive (FUCK!)and looper, next is my delay (which I've settled on as a Strymon Timeline or El Capistan), and then a wah.

So far, I've looked into the Chicago Iron Parachute Wah, for it's huge sweep. The sweep you see, must be huge. However, the price tag isn't the best. I'll deal with it, but I'm in total ignorance of what else there is, and Googling the thing is irritating. Everywhere is full of assholes who want to promote the Buddha Wah, which I dislike.

Is there any other suggestions out there?

I just sold my Keeler Designs Stretch Wah... The best I've tried (but I don't need wah anymore).
Wilson Wah are awsome too.

Check out Wilson Wahs...the Freaker in particular which is very "parachute" like

You can shoot him an email if the sweep is a concern.
He's a nice guy who hangs around a lot of the forums...and his wahs sound just as good/better than the originals/pricier boutique clones.

I'd checked out the Keeley, but it was a little too expensive to not justify saving the extra week. (I'm one of those who researches, and doesn't mind spending a little extra in the short term to save in the long term.

Yeah yeah. I believe that our fellow ILFer BigChiefBC rocks a Wilson Wah, and his endorsement got my guitar player to buy one. His is being built now, and he's had nothing but good things to say about the customer experience.

Fuck that -- I have a Thomas Organ wah I snagged for $17. Best vintage wah deal ever, and I've seen loads of them go for peanuts in the last year.
The Chicago Iron is a really specific sound -- you sure that's what you want?

Thomas Organ do sound decent, but I'm wary of the 'bay. If I'm buying sight unseen, I'd rather go with some maker.

And not sure, but I'm not using it for very wah-like applications. I'm running an acoustic violin through it, and not in a way to emulate guitar (never understood those dudes who try and emulate that buzz). More like sweeping toe to heel during tremolo double stops, as it sounds like the world is opening up underneath me. the GT-10 one has been doing me alright, but I also use it to summon or texture feedback, so I'm liking the idea of more room. That Wilson Freaker mentioned looks pretty perfect. The ability to dial in and out quack and range, and if he can sort me out with the hefty A to B I'm after, I'm down.

I sold my Keeler Designs Stretch to purchase the BEZFX Street Sweeper which is a Phaser in a Wah enclosure (manual phaser). That Street Sweeper could be fine in your setup too.

That is an awesome application for Wah:
If you like the GT-10 wah have you thought about getting a boss ME pedal for the wah sounds? They can operate like pedal boards and do some pretty awesome stuff on top of it. I have a 25 and a 33 and I like the wah on both although my current crybaby keeps me pretty happy so I use the ME-25 only for volume functions.

Crybaby is a troublesome pedal because I know they are all made about the same but they all sound so different I have had 3 now and only really loved the most recent, a slightly tweaked classic, but it isn't technically that different from my other 2.

Try a hellbabe, they need some fine tuning because they are auto on and off but for under 40 you really can't go wrong.

Yeah, I have a Freaker and love it. I went through a Crybaby and a Morley before I decided I wanted a Tycobrahe Parapedal clone.

I did look at the Chicago Iron one, but yeah it is crazy expensive for a wah. Then when Wilson announced he was making a Parapedal clone, the Chicago Iron dude showed up at Talkbass and started trashing him, and threatening him and shit, because apparently he had bought the rights to the Tycobraho name, and didn't like the fact that Wilson was even referring to it as the basis for his Freaker wah. Totally turned a lot of Talkbassers off of Chicago Iron because of the attitude.

Anyways, according to Mr. Wilson, with all the knobs at noon, the Freaker IS a Parapedal. But it has so much more range to the sounds you can get. I usually dial the Q up a smidge and freq range down a smidge (I'm using it on bass). Frequency-wise, it has the widest sweep I've ever heard in a wah. At toe-down, it is whistling/screaming high. As you bring it down, near the bottom, you get this sickening bassy WHOOMP which just kills people. At heel-down, it is almost a low-pass filter because of how low it goes. Great wah.

Crybaby also wasn't my thing for a few reasons, many of which you mention. And like I said, I rarely go for the cheap option. I'm not being a snob in that. I just found that when I do, I end up spending or wanting more. I'm trying to put my first board together! And do it efficiently and effectively.

I'd like to see some evidence of that, if only because that's totally turned me off anything to do with Chicago Iron, and I'd be telling my own folks to avoid them.

Just a feeler question... what more or less affordable wah would you recommend for a deep growling sweep with dirt (think Petrucci's wah tones... yeah he has a rackmount CB )

and i don't like wah after dirt, that's the problem

maybe the Cantrell CB? or is it just an overpriced CB?
