Re: boutique? analog? naw son, im from the future
ok, im gonna defend this a bit.
the thing about digital stuff is that people are going about it like its YOUR GUITAR. BUT ON AN IPAD when it should be: digital platform that allows for sound shaping on guitar. it SHOULD be the ultimate form of experimentation, but because of how its marketed and who its marketed to, its just "a cheaper way to do more"
and quite frankly i've gotten some pretty amazing organ sounds out of my $80 multifx and a chorus. and that long-ass track i have with the whammy pedal throughout? i quite literally could not use any other combination of guitar effects to achieve what i did on my multifx.
i'm calling it now and saying that years down the line, people are going to regret mocking multifx just because so many people promoting and critiquing it were really short sighted.

Multi FX have their uses, I work with someone that uses both so I know it's pluses and minuses.
Still I find this this boring in every way.
Why? well because #1 the fucking pad is on the fucking floor
There is no need for that at all! it sould be in HANDS reach! either on a stand OR MOUNTED ON YOUR GUITAR! #2 because of pad mounting the thing is too big for what it does. #3 it looks like a toy #4 it is a toy. #5 it is really boring.

it was your complaint so i addressed it :3
old stuff = different standards obviously. except not really. it looks like a toy, so what? if i make pedals, y'all are gettin nalgene enclosures >:c
its completely on point in rendering your "point" moot

Again you miss point therefore you mootness is all your own. I am talking about how it is built, how it functions not that it looks like your favorite transformer
Also since we're at it. The biggest turn off there is for me is when I read ###pedals ###amps and cabs... how about ###sounds you have never heard or completely flexible control to create sounds you have never heard. A lot of what it does isn't that new from stuff that has been around for a long time. Sure they get it a little more user friendly, and more compact but jeez boy it looks to me like the same as...
I mean come on you just stuck a computer in a foot controller! More could be done with that idea, so much more.

Re: boutique? analog? naw son, im from the future
you ever own a digitech multifx? they're actually really solid, and function well.
i'm not disagreeing with that, i'm just saying that:
1. there is often more that you can do with it than you think (my own work case in point)
and
2. the promoters and detractors never seem to know how to impliment the tools they have
think how there was this period in synths where everyone was all "LOOKIT LOOKIT. IT SOUNDS VAGUELY LIKE A TRUMPET" and such. so i think its almost assuredly a case of having too big of a sandbox for how you're being told to play in it.

I think you are looking for a argument that is not there... I am not talking about multi fx as whole, and have been dealing with them for years. Digitech being the main brand. I am only talking about this thing. I am not against ithing interfaces, I own one of the Akia thingies and like it fine, and for the money for the hardware and the app's functions it is a good little bugger, you can even use them without your ithing via usb midi

I agree this kind of technology has enormous potential. And for me I'm probably going to get this thing

At $100 it looks pretty good. All you have to do is buy it, download ishred live from the app store, and pay for each of the individual effects at $1 each and you're set. I'm going to download all the modulation stuff for it because ive never had any kind of faith in digital dirt.

I have a big problem with what you just said mister! Don't you know over half the tones come from how cool the gear looks?!?!?
Transformers + gear.... could you imagine the possibilities? A pedalboard that transforms into the scooter that you can drive to get to your next gig. Where can I my next couple paychecks? haha.I agree that this is the same old just wrapped in different package. You also have to realize the musicians that are into experimenting are greatly outnumbered by the executives that want to take their iPad they use for presentations by day, to use for their SRV bar band by night. Or the hipsters that use their iPad for writing their unintentionally ironic blogs at Starbucks to later rock their U2 riffs in their parents basement (with headphones obviously. Don't want to piss off the 'rents).
It's a newer technology, so I'm sure these companies are trying to get it into as many hands as they can at first, hence the boring everyday effects. I believe the interesting, groundbreaking stuff will be just over the horizon once they make their profits and are allowed to follow through on more imaginative ideas... or developers who aren't afraid to try something new get their hands on this.
