If I built this circuit I'd use 2 x 6112 subminis. It'd fit in a 1590B, including a SMPS or charge pump HV supply - hell, a transistor BM is huge and mostly empty space.

Power consumption would be 12v @ ~500ma - running the two 6112's heaters in series limit's the combined heater draw to 300ma, then a small amount for the anodes and a nice wedge left over for the SMPS. If I was gonna do it I'd use a NE555 based SMPS running at 150v.

......anyways, I'm not planning to build one (unless someone commissions me), I'm down with Scruffie - tubes should be used to overdrive other tubes, not to clip fkg diodes.
