Look up Dionysus Records and it's family of labels. I recall them having a label devoted to 60's Garage Rock comps.

+1. Get their latest album "Hippies" and you will be happy. Everyone young person should own it. Also check their twitter page it's the most random hilarious thing I've ever read.

methinks I have a new favorite person. I've only listened to KK and the Shrines, none of his other stuff. I really should check it out.
KK and the Shrines was one of a small number of groups that I loved the moment they started playing. Only other one I can think of off the top of my head would be Fela Kuti.

Re: Best Garage Rock bands?
Just get a few volumes each of Back from the Grave, Nuggets, and Garage Punk Unknowns comps and you'll be set...
Most of my faves have been mentioned (Guitar Wolf, Teengenerate, Mummies, Brimstone Howl...), but I'll add Devil Dogs, Mad Daddys, Pussy Galore, New Bomb Turks, and Gaunt to the list...

This times a million. Harlem opened for a Dead Weather concert last year and I melted in awe.
