i'm in the middle of rereading it (i've read it twice before) and i'm going to say it - they just didn't change that much.

I definitely agree with that statement, Snyder even did storyboards from some of the comic panels, but that wasn't the problem. I felt that the comic let the story "breathe" a lot more. It's just inherit to comic book form you can flip back or linger on an image to catch something and so it was a lot more personal to get to know the complexities of all the characters. I definitely think they did the best they could have in the movie (except maybe for some of the songs) but I think, as Alan Moore planned, it just works better as a comic. That said, I'm totally amped for the director's cut which I think will be more satisfying for me and I plan to see the theatrical version at least twice more so I wasn't disappointed. It's just that the comic was that good that the movie sucks by comparison. Like I said though compared to other comic movies it's the bomb, now if other comic movies don't step it up I'll be very disappointed.

*gishlullmoon remembers smashing pumpkins doing the music video for batman*............
the song rocks tho

i never quite understood why big bands made music videos for soundtracks though, i always thought it was degrading? (spelling?) :idk:

but i did fall in love with the video for perfect drug

The soundtrack was part of what ruined it for me...really cliche. I know they are trying to nail the time periods down by choosing music to identify the decade, but it was just kinda

99 Luftballoons was instant face palm. Others I could let go but a lot of them I didn't get. I would have just used the songs referenced in the comics and then a theatrical score. I must admit though MCR's cover of Desolation Row was great in the credits and I thought it was going to be horrible. It actually fit very well in my opinion.

I bought the end of days soundtrack when it came out for the new gnr song...

I should mention there wasn't nearly enough blue wang, I was dissapointed. He had a banana hammock on most of the time.

What suprised me is the way people reacted to the scenes. The only thing people flinched to were the violent scenes.
Nothing else seemed to bother anyone. Maybe i'm just a desensitized (to violence at least) nutjob but I found other scenes much more "cringe" worthy.

yeah, as i get deeper and deeper in, despite having read it previously, i can't help but be struck again and again by exactly how incredible the story is, and how well it is told. perhaps i'll just say that i'm thankful i can accept the movie as what it is - a movie. seeing (and enjoying) the movie does not, for me, detract from the experience of reading the book. for me, it is possible to have both.

just mho.

I think the fact that a great percentage of what people talk about it has to do with the big blue penis, means that the story wasn't presented well. Because the story in the comic has been powerful so far (I'm still reading).

I'm curious about why they made it so big though? Was that proportional to the actual actor. Maybe they enhanced it. In the comic Dr. M has a tiny little thing. Maybe they were trying to make it look more like a "man's" penis, as opposed to a little boy's. You know societies big fear of childlike porn. Perhaps avoiding an N17 rating meant they had to make it bigger. :idk:

say what you want about how well they adapted it to the big screen...

I didn't think the wang was that mastodonic or displayed that prominently...but maybe thats because I stare at my own all day :idk:

My rantings:

Now, Watchmen wasn't actually NOT THAT BAD. I enjoyed it, it was a good film. They obviously left a number of things out, and they added a couple new things, which I thought was done well. I even liked it, it was 'funnier' than I thought.

Big major plot hole: there was no alien, just a Doc Manny bomb. That's it. So, THEREFORE, there's no alien, THEREFORE, there's no island, THEREFORE how the hell does Comedian find out?

Part 2:

I liked Rorschach hunting down Dr. Long in the prison and the "Now, Doctor, it's your turn. TELL ME WHAT YOU SEE!" Which wasn't in the book (I think) and it was good.

Um, another odd thing, the unnessesary gore kinda got to me. I'm not a gore person, I think it's much scarier having IMPLIED violence and gore, then actually SEEING it...IMHO. So, therefore, SEEING the knot tops arm snap with bone and blood, and SEEING the secretary's leg get shot (and the blood from that,) and all just the GORE made me sick, guy's arms getting chopped off...ugh...

I thought the movie did pretty good UNTIL the end, the end just...sucked! NO ALIEN! Just the bomb, and EVERYWHERE? Moscow, etc... THAT fucked (sorry!) it up really bad for me. Becuase MULTIPLE BOMBS are a) harder to justify b) honestly, being me, if I was a leader of one of the countries involved, I see something terrestrial being involved... and what does THAT lead to... WAR! And, honestly, it's so much more obvious that Veidt did it, with the multiple bombs/no Alien....

But still good adaption, better than what I expected.

No Squid, No Peace.
