Simple amps

Post by Bellyheart »

Anyone know of any loud amps that don't have 2 channels and 8 knobs and five switches? Minimal minimal minimal. That acoustic 150 is appealing to me, but wondering if anything else exist in the style of the volume - tone - gain amplifiers, but not 5 watts.

Acoustic Control and Sunn are two really great suggestions. Traynor's are amazing too. Plus, the 70's SS ones are just my favorite amplifiers ever. Also, old Bogen tube PA amps converted for guitar use are AMAZING and only have a gain, master, treble and bass.also I have a friend that has one lying around he'd maybe sell ya

ZT Lunchbox. Conventional RMS is probably more 130-ish than the advertised 200 watts. Knobs are simple and do what they're supposed to - Gain, Tone, Volume, and Ambience (which is sort of like an open-backed cab emulator -- try it at halfway or less, tends not to work for most people fully cranked). Sounds a bit like old Fenders. I stopped hunting for an old Fender head when I got mine.

Yeah, I remembered the amp after I made the thread and then saw the tag and the watts. The Lunchbox is something I've been considering for awhile. I've played it before and it got loud, but I don't remember being impressed by anything other than that...however it may do.

I'll say it's not a life-changing tone. It's a very solid one, though. Combined with the convenience of the package, it's quite handy to have around. I lucked out and got mine for $150 new, but I'd buy again at the $260-ish they sell for knowing what I know.

Yeah that's what i've come to grips with. Seems like it could be a decent amp at a practice amp price and a gigging backup.

Some unconventional shit, but I found an old RCA 400 16mm film projector on the curb by my place, and I had an amp tech rip out its onboard tube loudspeaker amp and build it into this bangin little 1x15 combo amp. 10 or 15W, give or take. Volume and tone. Go!

That thing is beautiful! Did the person do anything to the amp circuit to make it guitar friendly?

Thanks man! I fucking love 1x pine... Dovetail joints, little feet on the bottom, projector handle mounted on the side. Tonight I added the projector badge to the grill cloth and the lamp control plate to the top. One of the xformers melted down last week though, so it's heading back to the tech for a bit... Sounds killer though!

And nope, amp circuit is as is. He recapped it and cleaned it up a hair, but it's stock tone-wise. Tons of bass with that 15" speaker too. Really nice sweep on the tone control as well.

I got lucky as hell finding that projector and a amp tech willing to indulge my shenanigans for sure. Let it be known that any film projector with a mic input on it has onboard amplification of some sort.
