Improvised Psych Set

Post by sweetbabyphil »

So the groups of dudes I jam with and I have recently gotten into playing improvised live sets at shows. It's worked out pretty well so far, and it's feels pretty fucking amazing to do it in front of an audience. We were lucky enough to open for our friends Earthless the other day in San Diego and we got some good video. The visuals in the background were done by Operation Mindblow. They had about four classroom projectors, dyes, liquids and some serious skill. I wanted to show you guys because there's more people here that would dig this kind of thing than I know in real life. Cuz ya'll cool.

Here's the video:

It's LONG. I doubt anyone will sit through the whole thing, but you should definitely skip around to get a feel for things. There's a lot of different moods and things get pretty heavy around the 30:00 mark. Anyway, enjoy!

Oh yeah, I'm the bearded dude btw.

Thanks guys!

Isaiah is a beast. Their set was some seriously heavy shit.

If any of you are interested, we're going to do a small run of CD's for this live set and another one we did the week before. They were compiled from the audio from the cameras and a field recorder. Not the greatest quality, but they capture the moment well. If any of you want a CD when we get them just PM me your e-mail address and I'll get a hold of you when they come out. I'll be glad to send ya one for free!

That was SICK. It's awesome that the crowd seemed so receptive as well, definitely seemed to add to the overall vibe of the performance. :thumb:

I think it's cause Isaiah moved to San Fran, while Mario and Mike are still in San Diego.

Also we just put up a bandcamp site. Check out http://brianellis.bandcamp.com/album/live-at-the-tin-can-alehouse-june-24-2011

There's the songs from the show in the video, and another set from the Tin Can Alehouse. Check out improvisation #1 and improvisation #3 on the Tin Can set. for #3 we used my echoplex. The erase head on it wasn't working at the time, so we used it to create a beautiful wall of noise. It made me :!!!:

I just ditched my cable and got this apple TV thing and I am watching it on my nice TV sitting on the couch while my wife is making dinner...... cool stuff!! Our band is very similar but we haven't branched out into playing live yet but that's our next goal. We're a little more...... avante garde than you guys but I wish we were more psychedelic....... definitely rad stuff so far.
