Just ordered a Fuck Overdrive

So despite being a member here since last summer, I only looked into Small Sound/Big Sound yesterday. After hearing some sound clips of the Fuck Overdrive, my jaw dropped: it was the overdrive tone I'd been searching for for a long time. Clean and sparkly, yet gritty and LOUD. Kinda like a treble booster on steroids (and a shot or two of tequila for good measure ), with the capabilities of getting otherworldly tones. It just so happened that this morning, I received $150 cash, and with the leftover balance in my paypal account, I just pulled the trigger with a fuzzhugger order about a half hour ago.

What can I expect? Should I have held out for the Mountain Range (or better yet should I get a Mountain Range when it comes out to stack with this thing)? Did I make the right choice?

I also want to say: this company is everything I admire about pedal builders. I'm actually an electrical engineer myself and am highly interested in eventually entering the pedal building business (my specialty is in analog signal processing and audio engineering), and from what I'm seeing and hearing so far SS/BS is the ideal of what I think a company should be.

smallsound/bigsound has been (ever since I custom ordered my first TAFM) without a doubt THE builder to go to if I want something done RIGHT. I've since then owned two more TAFMs, a Fuck, several incarnations of the year4545 (which is NEVER leaving my sight), and one of the blargg-o-tron-o-trons. I'm holding out for a Mountain Range (and a delay...............................) , but I think you're going to love the Fuck. You definitely made a wise decision.

You're only just beginning to catch the ss/bs bug. I can see it now: after this, you're definitely going to want a TAFM. And then maybe you might snatch up one of the remaining Sparkle Motions. Then you'll hunt down a blargg (good luck), and then eventually get the balls to try a 4545 and it'll change your world. I personally had 4545 #03, before anyone had really heard one, and it rocked my world. I've changed my whole outlook on a set-up and it sits right in the core.

But yeah, anyway, ss/bs fucking rules, and welcome aboard the wagon!

good thing you didn't hold out - the two will be very different. i'm not so interested in putting out pedals that drastically overlap each other in form or function.

What would you say is the main difference? Aside from the Range not having the fucked up amp sound?

well, i've been sort of rethinking the mountain range - in fact, i'm going to do a poll in a few days about it. it may change a LOT...

the main differences (were):
more clarity (read, clean blended)
different filtering
different gain range
similar circuit topology, but using different methods for clipping
different controls

So, an update about all of this... I ran into a sum of money and cancelled this order to buy the Truly Biting Godzilla Deluxe a month ago. I then was able to sell some stuff and put together enough money (and then some) for a Fuck Overdrive, so I called up Brian and ordered a Fuck with a custom paint job (will post photos when it gets here, if they don't already get posted in the custom artwork thread), but with the momentary crackle switch replaced with a treble booster that switches independently into the Fuck. Should be here on Wednesday or Thursday. SO psyched.

Though as a recent owner of a Fuck, I must say I'm using the momentary switch way more often than I would have imagined. You should give a standard one a try if you ever have the chance.

Oh I'll still get the crackle via the mini toggle. I'd just rather have a treble booster driving the Fuck even harder. Nothing like fucking harder, eh? I might just fuck my big muff
