dreams due come true (live)

Post by effetebomb »

So I primarily play drums and last night a long time performance dream of mine came true. During noise breakdowns, solos, or someother time when proficiency is unnecessary I will occasionally climb up on to the drum kit and play from up there. Last night during the noise breakdown/ solo in the middle of a really poppy song I did this. I got onto the stool, then one foot on the floor tom, then the other foot on the bass drum, and then the thing i had been hoping for since I started doing this maybe a year ago happened. The leg of the floor tom gave, my leg shot out from under me, and I crash landed, sending nearly every piece of the drums scattering. The crowd freaked out, my band kept playing and I the bass, snare, and hihat up again to come back in on the poppy part. Gangster shit.

Has anyone seen the Henry Rollins DVD "Live at Luna Park"? It is a few years old. Its a spoken word thing and one of the bits is about his obsession with one upping Iggy Pop. He has played with him 3 times (Rollins Band, as of the dvd) and each time he talks about pouring it all in and being at the top of his game and then just looking like a chump when Iggy comes on and blows him out of the water. Its one of the funnier things I've heard from Rollins and his description of Iggy has been a big influence on me, performance wise.
