Driving a Hoof for cheap...

Post by Radiohead625 »

Ok so i'm getting a Hoof and I want to nail the sounds in this vid http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=tyN614y5ar0 however after I grab the hoof I won't have enough money for the Kalamazoo. Can I use something like an Ehx Lpb-1 to push the hoof into explosion like that? What do you recommend I do on the cheap to achieve that sound? Keep in mind I use a Vox ac15c1 so just any old tube screamer won't do. Thanks for the help guys as usual guys. :thumb:

And Aardvarks! set to clean boost sounds superb with a Hoof, or any other fuzz really.

I wouldn't use an Lpb-1 for that, it adds alot of volume and a little bass but doesn't really "push" your pedals. I'd use another fuzz or mild OD. I use a Modtone speedbox, cheap distortion, to boost my Box of Rock from a Marshall sound into more of a Russian Big Muff sound. I'd check it out. I also use an equalizer as a boost to boost specific frequencies when I solo, I would also try doing this too. But the LPB-1 is not what you are looking for. Maybe an 05 artifact or a Dark Boost maybe. Or perhaps even an Electric Brown.

Try an overdrive after the hoof. That's how he had the kalamazoo. Maybe even just a boost after, so the hoof hits your tubes hard as hell.

...and I've never had a problem with lpb's pushing other pedals

He's not pushing the hoof with the kalamazoo -- looks like the kalamazoo is after the hoof acting as a dirty amp.
Hoof -> some kind of overdrive pedal or a nice dirty tube amp should do the trick.
But that nice sag is the bassman no?
That solidgolfx pedal is great too -- it's an Ibanez Standard fuzz and nails a lot of those Black Keys sounds on its own.

No he's using the deluxe reverb again. I agree that Solidgold fx formula 76 is an awesome pedal. So I guess i'm looking for a good cheap overdrive for a vox then.

I don't know what an aardvark is lol, but maybe i'll try a Box of Rock or a Hotcake... I wish there was a cheaper overdrive that sounded like some of those rare smaller combo, but i know that's asking too much. A honey bee overdrive might sound amazing, but they're ridiculous in price.

These things love fuzz, either pushing other pedals, or being pushed by them.
