Favorite Delay?

Post by Psyre »

I know threads like this pop up what most would consider too much, but just curious as to what your favorite delay is, and why?

Up till now it has been Wampler Faux Tape Echo, followed by EHX SMMH

i'm talking about pedals i've owned btw

The FTE is my favourite because it just makes everything sound better :) it blends well with my playing and adds the extra bit i need to be happy with my sound even when playing clean chords. It can do long ambient delays, pronounced dotted eights... can't but recommend it

of course i'm fully aware of the fact that El Capistan would probably blow my mind and make me sell it
I make pedal demos as East Stomp Boutique - http://www.youtube.com/c/eaststompboutique

If I had two arms, my favorite delay would probably be the El Capistan.

Electroaharmonix Memory Man Deluxe, the big box version, just sounds so good!! and the internal boost is nice when razzed.

IMO nothing beats an echoplex. i've got a bunch of delay pedals and I always end up going back to the echoplex.

Pedal-format, Digi Time Bender. If it had more presets or came in a rackmount, I'd be stupidly happy. Takes high-headroom, abusive rack effects, ebow, feedback, and more, and does amazing self-oscillation and ducking stuff that no analog unit will ever touch. Harmonized delay is also very well implemented and useful.

Rackmount: Digi RDS-series rackmounts. Don't really care which one, the thing I like is the ability to dial in a very lo-fi ugly and play with non-destructive LFO circuits at the same time. It's a glorified pedal by today's standard in a rackmount, but I like dials and after almost of 20 years with them, I can dial in anything I want, yet I'm still pleasantly surprised by the seasick wierd it puts out. Currently running two (one each channel) for stereo, my one complaint with the original unit was it was mono. It is no longer an issue when the pair of them was a whopping $100. I have rackmounts I *like* more in terms of individual patches or for a certain sound, but the RDS things I just haven't been able to emulate or get the same level of ugly out of with other stuff.

Old-school (read, big rock star, and I didn't have to maintain it): the venerable Roland RE-301. When I had mine for 15 or so years, about 10 of them you had to cut your own tape. It was loads of fun to maintain too, but nothing else sounds like it. I can approximate it with the Timbender enough to not care, but in a perfect world I'd have two and a tech.

I just built an Echo Base with a mod to turn the modulation on/off.

Self-oscillates fast. Cleanish trails, fun modulation, fun build!

I really like my Empress SuperDelay... each mode are really usable especially tape and revers mode and it can do looping.
But the DMB Lunar Module really caught my interedt (I might give it a try some day).

And if SS/BS create a Dealy... that would be awesome. :!!!:

Really don't think I can pick one. DMM sounds ridiculously nice, great warbly vibrato, with a cool preamp too, SMMH is amazing for max repeat washy noise and stuff, and the copicat has a unique sound which is really cool.

I think if I really had to pick one it would be the SMMH for the versatility, but I'd miss the DMM sound pretty hard.

I really enjoy the tap divide on my friend's memory boy deluxe, but there's a lot of delays out there, and I've only played 5 tops.
