Leslie pedals

Post by DarkAxel »

Hey, guys

i'm a bit of a leslie sound junkie... i feel uncomfortable if i don't have it on my board. I loved it on Boss PH-2 (you would be surprised how good it sounded), not very much on Stereo Polyphase, my new Sovtek Small Stone isn't that bad and the Pigtronix EP-1 is kinda cool, but since i got the sovtek, i've used it basically only for the elslie and envelope filter and it's too big and too heavy for just that (and i find the asymmetrical phasing very weird  )

yes, i'd consider selling EP-1 and getting the PH-2 again :D

what are good fast leslie pedals for decent prices? what are your favourite?

The Strymon Lex is supposed to be excellent but it's pricey. Maybe get a cheap vibe like the BBE or Danelectro. I don't know if they can get fast enough for you though.

The Jen Motorphaser is cool too

I've got a Viva Analog optovibe as well that does a nice Leslie as well as vibe and vibrato.

Someone mentioned the Paisley -- I have his vibe and it kills.

Someone here has the BBE Soul Vibe and really likes it, although I forget who...

My EHX Wiggler is pretty convincing.

Yeah I heard more good things about the Soul Vibe. Don't know if it does convincing fast leslie tones though, I don't have any personal experience with it.

if i remember correctly, Soul Vibe didn't seem fast enough for me (from demos, havent tried it)

this thread isn't necessary just a recommendations thread :) you can share your experience with different pedals trying to achieve the sound

+1 on the Line6 Leslie emulation, which on the PodXT is startlingly good. i also really like the "Phase Modulation" setting on my TC SCF chorus/flanger, which combines vibrato and chorus and does a pretty nifty fake fast Leslie with the Speed and Width turned up; in practice, though, i tend to just use the Chorus with the Intensity and Width cranked to get that Pink Floyd gurgle on chords because it's simpler to dial in.

the Vibrato circuit on an old Fender amp also makes a good faux Leslie in a pinch...i've used it with a cheap electric keyboard and the amp's reverb to make Instant Hammond.

Cool stuff, guys

i know i could just keep the Pigtronix... but as cool as it can be i haven't been able to really bond with it... maybe it'll happen later? I hope so, it does the leslie sound and envelope filtering really well

edit: Strymon Lex sounds astonishingly beautiful, but their prices... i'd welcome El Cap, Blue Sky and Lex gladly to my pedalboard, but that would actually be approximately as expensive as the rest of my pedals and approximately the same as my guit and amp combined... unacceptable
Not the fact it would be so expensive, but the fact i simply don't have that kinnd of money
