Pop punk was hugely popular when I was in highschool (00-03). I kinda thought it died out...apparently not.

That was merely the first wave!

Pop punk was never much different from regular punk(see: The Ramones) which was never too far off from Cheap Trick-esque power pop. The whole "Emo" thing of the mid '00's was pop punk(Think Green Day, MCR) with a slow infusion of elements of hardcore and metal being added.

Everything in Wisconsin is the lamest metal/hardcore/metalcore or folk. Those are pretty much the two styles of music I would never want to be in a band for. bleh bleh bleh. Why won't somebody make a psychedelic noise-funk band with meeeeeeeeeeeeeee?!?!?!?

Oh, and here. They are supposedly opening up for Mustard Plug in like a few months or something, but they were also going to open for Less Than Jake, but turned down Less Than Jake because this band felt that Less Than Jake wasn't professional enough or something LOL

They turned it down because they were too busy on "hiatus" and finding a ride to chicago would be too hard. A few of the members of that band are my friends and one of is constantly telling me that the reason why the band that I'm is going to have a hard time finding success is because we're not "unique" enough. They honest to god think that they're 1 of 3 ska bands that exist in the whole chicago land area...

That's not what I had heard, but I believe you because you actually talk to them. We are plenty unique, how many people can flow shoegaze into Black Keys?

The terrible local music I have is more a side effect of the existence of rich kids. So, their parents spring for full string parts on their albums or, oh hey, their dad is a producer, so all their stuff comes out sounding super clean and auto-tuned to perfection. Then, their shows are hosted at Presbyterian churches where you can't curse or be "too loud" because the "levels will suffer if you have your amp up too much". Things like this infuriate me. But, at least they're musically coherent. I guess I just disagree with their methods and their sound.

When I was sixteen I moved to a small town in Texas where the music scene is comprised entirely of scenesters, white trash, and old dudes. This was the first band to make me really angry at my new school: http://www.purevolume.com/fashionsfade

I was in the process of discovering punk music when I moved there, and Fashions Fade was my first exposure to what people considered to be "hardcore" in 2005/06 so needless to say I was bothered.

Then, back in 2009 when I started a thrash metal/crust band with my friends there, we played every local show with these douchebags:

...because the guitarist's dad owned the only place in town where we could have metal shows, and we could only play if they could play too. And if I did 100% of the booking and promoting, without me or my band getting paid.

But their dads used to party with Pantera, so of course they have the right to be arrogant pieces of shit with no talent and no concept of how music works outside of their small town, their circle of friends, and their small CD collection.


EDIT: I also have to give them credit for the massive amount of inspiration they supplied, because playing with them encouraged us to be the fastest, heaviest, loudest, tightest, most abrasive band in town and put these assholes to shame at every show. Our music wasn't that much cooler, but god damn were we a better band. We wouldn't have practiced so much and gotten so good at playing together if we weren't filled with so much hatred towards the bands we played with.
