...this is why it is vitally important that you empty your transistors of sounds that don't get through on a regular basis. every six months is a good average. just open them up, shake out all the unheard sounds, give the inside of the transistor a good wipe with a damp cloth, and carefully reassemble.
you are also advised to unplug your pedal before any intervention and to wear the appropriate safety clothing as illustrated in the photograph below.
