Need Wall-Of-Fuzz Shoegazers

Post by archlilim »

Hey peoples, looking for some Shoegazers on the more feedbacky, wall-of-fuzz side of things. I have a bunch, but I know there's more out there that I'm missing. I can't get enough of the aesthetic. Thanks.

Dance time.

I don't know if these fit... I'm more into the dream pop end of the shoegaze spectrum.

There's a group called "Should" that was more in the lo-fi drony shoegaze camp but still had a strong dream pop aesthetic (i.e. lots of fuzz but not in the noisy MBV way).

Asobi Seksu has some cool wall of fuzz moments.

I'm sure you're familiar with Autolux.

The Lassie Foundation was cool... their earlier stuff had lots of fuzz including some droney feedbacky songs on their first EP. One of their guitar players was Jeff Schroeder who's now in the Pumpkins.

The Autumns definitely have noisy/feedback/freak-out moments in their live shows, but their recordings are fairly tame as far as that goes (for the most part). Still one of my favorite bands, though.

Who are some groups you already like? That may make me think of others.

Also, I only have two songs by "The Ludvico Treatment" but they're kind of melodic yet noisy wall-o-fuzzy in the vein of Swervedriver.

+1 on Asobi Seksu and Medicine. I need to get me some more Medecine, now that I think of it.

How about Ringo Deathstarr? They've been touted in other threads before, and I really dig what I've heard of theirs.

Tips on buying Medicine:
:thumb: If you can find their 2nd album, "The Buried Life" get it. Perfect. Fuzzy as hell.
:thumb: The 1st album, "Shot Forth Self Living", is pretty much just as good, and just as fuzzed out.
:thumb: The 3rd album, "Her Highness", is great. The fuzz is less harsh, but the songwriting is strong. It's produced by Eddie Offord (who produced the early Yes albums), and features Justin Meldal Johnsen (Beck, NIN) on bass.

 Beware....after the band broke up, guitarist Brad Laner made an electronic album with a different singer, and but called it Medicine - the album is "The Mechanical Forces of Love"... stay away from that one!

Oh! Here's one! Pink Noise Test - Electric Train EP. Beach Boys harmonies buried under walls of crazy insane-o fuzz & manipulated guitar insanity. The full-length that followed was a bit too clean & polished for my taste, but Electric Train's fuzz is just barely held in check...
