The push.pull pedal is a synth effect based upon the PLL (Phase Locked Loop) IC, in which the PLL has been "unlocked" and let loose through 16 knobs, a joystick, switches, and a light controlled filter. It is hard to describe the sounds I have already heard: distorted, glitchy, fuzz, bass synth, drone, full of clicks, 8 bit, and erratic synthetic hyperdrive.

so does this do everything the purple push pull does? I remember you said the 4 joystick version was gonna be like $350 and you weren't sure how many you were gonna make.

the original push.pull was made with 4 joysticks (so, the equivalent of 8 knobs), each with a dual resistance of 100K. Not very pliable. For this design, I chose the resistances that best fit each of the original 8 resistance paths as I reverse engineered it. Much better! The voltage starve on the PLL is just awesome too, and that's a 1K. So that design, unless I can customize each joystick resistor, is out. Looked so cool though.

I added voltage starves and an oscillator section and filters. The four oscillators run from the rare 4 resistor joystick i found on ebay for cheap. Had all the parts except for the knobs.

I would never sell prototype quality stuff, and I really want to make a PCB for my newer design. I have not yet learned how, but I am reading and experimenting with EAGLE CAD. My goal is to make a PCB for a smaller pedal that is a PLL with preamp and make it sputter and splat like this one. I want at least 1 joystick, but 10 K non-return to center fits the design way better. After (or accompanying) a filter/dirt pedal.

Really, none of this can be built with the lack of income that I have. And yes, I would build these with all love and seriousness if I had something to work with, or partner up with someone who knows what they're doing. I am so poor that it was a stretch to buy the knobs to complete this.... that's what I get for choosing teaching! BTW, thanks New Jersey for reducing my salary by 5K on Thursday. Wah wah wah.

dude I totally understand what its like to choose knobs or food. I do that myself. all I can say is that you have done a fantastic job with the PLL. your work is very inspiring to think that someone can DIY such a unique and high quality unit. it shouldn't be too hard to setup pre-orders or find a pedal company to co-op with you. if you make a modular synth version, you'll have people lined up to buy it. those are the people with lots of money who already have one of everything. the modular guys are also not afraid to buy PCB only. if that makes it cheaper and easier for you.

oh my
