yeah just get thee resume in, most of them we see are pretty terrible anyway, so as long as you spell everything right and make it look professional you should be OK.
Most of them that get thrown out are because or spelling errors or terrible presentation.
We have people apply for very computer intensive jobs and send in resume's full of typing errors, they hit the trash very quickly.

nobody's going to expect someone who's just finished HS to have a hire-me-Mr.-Trump resume; they're pretty much just going to want to know that you've done something(s) that prove you're presentable and show up on time, and be shown by how you put together your resume that you can follow complex formats and concepts adequately.

yep, but if they ask you to fill out an application and you just write "see resume" on it, expect not to get the job.
I actually had a job lined up for my brother in Law and he came in, they asked him to fill out the application, he wrote "see resume" in big letters handed it in and left.
It was pretty obvious he didn't actually want a job.

Re: The spite, hate, rage, apathy and mild irritation thread
My one big problem with job advertisements is the way they advertise them, I know they want someone that's reliable and punctual and wont burn the place down but when they write it down it comes off really harsh and like an unfriendly work environment, I know it's not always the case but I think when searching for jobs over long periods it can really grind you down and become patronising in a way.
I'm not asking for a love letter but just a few bullet points about what the job entails, a name and number and a please enquire note would be better so I have no predetermined ideas about who is writing the jargony little slogans and catch phrases that they all love to use so much, it reminds me of the way they try and make all new job titles sound more important than they actually are, it's too easy to see through, just be honest.

yeah that is a problem, our HR people make the worst job advertisements and none of our titles fit.

I think you have to ignore skill requirements, they ask for the stupidest of things for the simplest of jobs, they set there standards a taddd high... i'm sure soon toilet clearner positions will be asing for 10 years experience and degrees in toilet scruberrery. Must be willing to smear shit over self while the manager laughs.

Toilet Scrubbery I think requires a masters,
what really sucks is that the experience and degrees required leave people so far in debt that they can't afford to take entry level work anymore and build it into a career

That is a HUGE problem in the tech fields. I'm a network engineer for a pretty damn big ISP, and when I was looking for a new job last winter, every job had every single protocol and router type known to man in the "required" field. Companies just shoot for the moon on those job descriptions. The problem is that a lot of people look at those required lists and don't even apply. So companies are losing out on applicants that very could be great for the position because they write these ridiculously absurd and intimidating job descriptions.

Re: The spite, hate, rage, apathy and mild irritation thread
yeah it sucks, plus you are missing out on really creative people that might be able to work their way up to something great, it is getting harder and harder to start in the mailroom.
I had a friend who worked in printing for 25 years, got laid off and now every job he applies for requires a degree for what he already has been doing for most of his adult life, it is so stupid.
Plus I spend about half my time training myself and co-workers out of jobs, teaching things so that we can outsource.

I hate it when I'm listening to a demo or something and the person who made it decided to pan the one audio track all the way to the right.

This is really annoying. I think it's because some people are using cheapass tactics like plugging into one channel of their sound card. Or something.
But even then you can mirror the track in Audacity to give it "stereo".
