Gathering info for my Texas vacation!

Post by BlindtoFaith »

Hey guys! I am going to be in Texas for a week with my lovely wife soon. We will be staying in Lago Vista and using Austin as our home base. What I want to know is if there are any awesome music stores I need to check out. I really want to get some cool pedals and just love checking out local mom and pop music stores. Also, my wife loves to shop and she is into vintage and antique things. Any info would be greatly appreciated. We are not opposed to traveling to Houston and other cities in the vicinity. Thanks!

Music Makers!!!! When I was in Austin I went there with Sonidero and picked up an AB-Synth. They have a bunch of ILF pedals in stock.

Music makers is alright. They do carry ilf affiliated stuff so that's a plus. The cash america (pawn) next door is better most of the time. They will go down pretty far on the right gear, and have tons of better stuff in the back that they tend to hold on to until festivals (don't let that stop you from asking). A few blocs down, you have austin vintage guitar (by alamo drafthouse) and slightly further down, south austin vintage. Be prepared for scary prices on some stuff at either. Still worth going to nonetheless.

If you're a bassist type, checking out Bass Emporium in Austin could be worth it as well. I've always wanted to go, haven't gotten a chance yet.

My fondest memories of Austin were on South Lamar. Just drive around, and you'll see so many fucking guitar stores.

Bass Emporium is KILLER. Go in, pick up a perfectly set-up Rick, plug into an 200 watt Orange and a Bergantino NV610, CRANK it. awesome.

Austin Vintage Guitar does have cool stuff, but yes, pricey.

don't worry about guitars, though - go swimming, hit up lots of taco trucks. my big Austin recommend has been Bananarchy! Frozen banana heaven.
Maybe partying will help.

Sorta "touristy" but check out the bats at the Congress Ave. Bridge in the evening. Millions of bats come out every night to feed, pretty awesome sight! They'll piss on you too, if you're into that sort of thing...even if you're not, you may still get pissed on. Good times!

Oh, and James the bartender at the Hyatt right there plays guitar and HOOKS IT UP ON THE DRINKS, super cool dude, drink and talk gear, your gf will love it!!

Looks like this:
