I'm bringing this topic back! Yesterday I found out Pavement had some songs tuned to DADABE. The bottom strings and the top strings have separate "voices" or tones. Great for noodling high on the neck then going down for rhythm.

If you wanna hear someone who uses overtone-y/drone-y tunings to masterful effect...I implore you...LISTEN TO HARRY MANX!
(I've always wanted to learn how to play the banjo, btw...though not in typical 'twangy-twangy' fashion
)

Either a baritone scale neck, or huge balls.

I wrote about a million songs on a four-string acoustic tuned D-A-D-A. (EADandB strings). pretty close to the same thing.

Fuck yeah. I just put my new bass in DADA. The high G up to an A is pretty stressfull, but Ill probably just grab a lighter gauge string pretty soon.

Yep, for the longest time I would buy all new strings for that guit, tune it DADAAD, and rock about a day until the G string would break. Eventually I just replaced the four strings I mentioned before - more room to really bend the shit outta the B string and no noise from adjacent strings. I still can pick that thing up and music just pours out of me. Too bad the guitar itself sort of sounds like shit. :-/
