Strange things are afoot at ILF.

That way you can listen to the song before you play it. Might come in handy. But what if you notice you played a wrong note in the middle and want to change it as soon as you actually play the song? Marty McFly, Emmett Brown, we need help!

I'm actually really happy with my current set up.

I have some mainstays on my board (Whetstone, TU-2, RE-20, Wheels of Fire wah) and I just swap two fuzzes off and on the board depending on my mood.

I thought about picking up a RE-201 but the hassle of keeping it in working order and having to move it for gigs makes my head hurt.

I'm telling you it's great here. The air is clean, the water's clean, even the dirt, it's clean. Bowling averages are way up, mini-golf scores are way down. And we have more excellent pedal builders than any other forum we communicate with.

My dream pedalboard would probably be huge if I wanted it for Everything. But I could make it inot a few smaller ones... but I'm not, cos it woudl take ages!

From time to time I still do it. I can't help it. I dream up the perfect pedalboard and then I draw it. I am pretty damn close this time though! Only four pedals away from this. I think if I ever reach it, I will mount all the modulation on a board and leave enough space for like six boxes of dirt and velcro that space up, so I can go modular dirt into the same modulation. I tried to draw most of the pedals from memory so that's why the Harmony Synth got fucked up.

I was thinking this:

Either Meathead into Megalith
or Superfuzz into Helloween Fuzz into Ruckus into TAFm
or Four Eyes into Harmony Synth
or whatever else

into this modulation chain:
Randys Revenge > Sea Machine > Mushroom Echo (Grand Orbiter in the Effects Loop) > CCB (Dr.Q > Digidelay > Clari(not)) > Pareidolia > AD4096 > WET > RRR > modded TR-2 or a clone thereof.

I don't know if here's the place to mention it, but I was once working as a music journalist doing a round-up of distortion pedals, and I got to put 38 of them in one line and turned them all on at once (I had that many leads - and batteries!).
I gotta say I got some incredible flat-lining sustain, then the sound was overwhelmed by a burbling outboard motor effect - the background noise amplified to hell...
It was only later I realised that the thing that affected the tone most (treble/bass, boost/cut etc) was what came last in the chain... ( ). And I didn't even record it! (     )

Ive been redesigning my pedalboard so that I have three smaller pedals. Each with a dedicated function, but flexible enough to be used on its own. I haven't really come up with the signal chains on the first and third boards, just some concept and specific pedals that I want on them.

First board: is going to be a sound-source board. It will have a synth pedal of some kind, maybe more than one, a mixer, a looper and a phaser.

The second board: high five plus -> wolf computer -> mini Gnomeratron -> ring thing -> omicron AD -> omicron trem -> muza

Third board: compressor -> whetstone -> sea machine -> ultimately tremolessence -> snowflake -> 919 -> rrr -> new boss rc looper

I'm almost finished with the second board. It's mostly a revamping of the current setup. Then I'll start working on the third. Things are likely to be shifted around.

I like your plans! I think the third board would be more for me, but I can totally see what all these get used for. I tried to do the opposite thing and put my pedals in an order so that I can use one board with different dirt for all the different stuff I do with minimal changes. I'd probably wire it so that I can take the stereo out from my Digidelay to a second amp for my drone band. But atm I don't even have a second amp so this will work for all my stuff. Just that some pedals won't get turned on in some contexts. It gets on my nerves to set everything up from the start for whichever band I am rehearsing with. Rather drag around a couple of extra pedals. And who knows maybe I can think of new uses for sounds in unusual contexts.

I like your plan for a pedal-board too! Having an awesome modulation section is critical. I tried something similar, but I couldn't quite separate my modulation from my dirt the same way you have. If you do have it separated so much, and where you're planning on shifting fuzz around depending on what you need, I would look at those bedroom boards. I think that's exactly what they were designed for, trading pedals out with ease.

Man I just looked at your modulation chain and realized that I need more feedback and effects loops

Oh, yeah, those bedroom boards are truly drool-worthy! But shipping that over the atlantean bathtub would probably render me broke. I will probably try and build one myself. Unless I can get a hold of the one dude I know that works as a carpenter. He's a musician too so I guess he'd understand my needs. Only trouble is that guy has kinda dropped off my radar...

If you think that when you look at my modulation you should definitely avoid looking at Bassus' dirt. That guy's the master of loop.
I can only advise you to get one of those Moody Sounds echos. He has a model that has an effects loop and the Mushroom Echo that has a photo eye, but both are basically the same so you can easily mod them to have both. Or have him do it which is what I did. The Echos sound awesome by themselves, pretty dark, it does a nice oscillation (pitch can be controlled via the photo resistor) and now with the effects loop it can be any modulated delay you want. Love that thing.

probably something smaller than i'd think...

Algal Bloom, univox superfuzz (and or Silver Rose), upper, Sea Machine, Bit Commander*, Strymon Blue Sky, LAL Thunder Box*, Skychord Truckloud*, Digitech Whammy divebomb, Snazzy fx Mini-Ark*, Boss PS-5*, two TC Vortex flanges (stacked flange is amazing) set up into a bypass loop or something, Eventide delay, Morley wah.

ok, maybe not... BUT there are a few thrown in just because i think they're neat. they have a * by them

also alla dat goin into ma dumble of course.
,':{I> ... your move, Trebek.
