Alright. Post tutorials on how to do things, and I'll edit the first post with a link to your post.

Also post what you'd like to see a tutorial done, and hopefully someone will do it! If it's something I do in my pedals, I'll definitely make a video/photo tutorial.

This isn't a "How to build a _________" thread, it's stuff like soldering, drilling, finishing, etc. Anything you think would be useful to DIYers.

Soldering an IC to a PCB, which is the same process as anything else:

There are notes in the video with instructions. The noise is my Gorillapod fume extractor. I broke a blade in each fan by not paying attention to where my pliers were... so now it's noisy. Still works, though!

I couldn't find this on the web so I made one up. I see a lot of people use 3 leds and I think thats just cause they dont know how to do it this way. the morley uses 3pdt switches and only has 2 leds. I knew it was possible but it took me a whole day to think of the solution.

So the A+B switch then turns on both leds? I've wanted the try multi color leds but never do.

yes sir. if you stare at it long enough it makes sense. the LED's take 2 poles on one switch and one on the other. the audio takes 1 pole on the left and 2 poles on the other switch. its basically re-using the led switching thingy so that I can switch the off led back on with the other switch.

its been pissing me off since yesterday. I went to bed pissed off and I drew the schematic as soon as I popped out of bed. sleep owns.

How To: Perfboard

This is how I build on perfboard. The soldering video will come later. I recorded it... but dirty fingernails. Can't have that on Youtube.



First off, obviously, you'll wanna cut up your board. The best way to do this is a small sheer, but scoring them with a pen knife and breaking, a Dremel cutting disk, or a band saw also work well. Remember the dust is pretty bad for you, so be careful about ventilation and stuff.

Now, you're gonna wanna build a larger circuit one section at a time. Start by loading in the lowest-profile components, and working your way up. Just like a PCB, but in smaller sections.

As you load in the components, you'll want to bend them in the direction they need to go to hold them in place and make the "traces."

Then, clip them. I usually try to make as many of the traces as I can with the first set of components. For parts that don't need to go anywhere, bend them and clip them at about the edge of the pad. Don't leave too much or you can get shorts or make it easy to make solder bridges.

Now repeat that process with the caps, then transistors, and whatever other components you have. Same order as PCBs (shortest to tallest, basically)

Then repeat for the rest of the board.

Then you solder it up and add the wires and you're done! I'll get a soldering video for perfs up soon. It's a bit sloppy by nature, but it's like anything. Just don't feed the solder right into the iron.

Word? I've never tried the kind without pads. The stuff I use is plated through hole, so you can solder to the pad up top if you miss a connection. It does mean I have to be careful with jumpers, but using 0 ohm resistors fixes that, and they're nicer to work with anyhow.

BTW, FR4 is the material. It's standard PCB stock, instead of the cheaper stuff that a lot of inexpensive proto boards are made of.
