New Battles Video!

Post by Holy Schnikes »

Shit is awesome, recorded in some fancy french building with insane acoustics. I've yet to pick up the new album but I'll definitely grab it ASAP. Watching Battles perform is a pretty amazing experience!

Here's a link briefly discussing the shoot, also another performance:

Loves Battles. Since Mirrored I've kept up with them, Gloss Drop is just as good.

Excellent, glad you liked it. Here's another great video. The weirdness and max amounts of gear hooked me immediately. They're nuts live, super busy on stage, probably more so now that they're only a 3 piece.

This exactly, haha.

I just checked out a few other songs, each from a different one of their albums, and their sound seems to have progressed a lot, which I like. They seem like the type of band that will always offer up something new and different.

Awesome video! I loved Mirrored but haven't got round to checking out the new stuff yet, definitely will after seeing that though.

Battles are probably the band I've seen live the most out of everyone. Been up the front for most of them shows too and I STILL can't work out how they do it all live! Seriously talanted guys. I think Dave (bass/guitar) doesn't get nearly enough credit for what he does. Saw them about 2 weeks ago at the Primavera Festival as a 3 piece and I do get the impression they've lost a little something without Tyondi in the mix. I think it's gonna take them a while to get properly to grips with being a 3 piece. It was a bit more monotonous than usual, with only a couple of standout tracks. It was the first gig of theirs that didn't blow me away completely. Still, that live video in the old hotel is mindblowing so hopefully there'll be more stuff of that standard to come :) the whole droney breakdown bit with the pitched down line6 guitar loops being run through the POG gives me goosebumps!!!

Love this band. They always reminded me of a better Animal Collective. Or rather Animal Collective has always come across as a less powerful, more hipstery version of Battles.

Wow, really?? I don't hear it myself but I've heard someone else say the same. What is it you find similar between them, out of curiosity?

I'm a big fan of both bands and that comparison has never crossed my mind. I think AC are the only other band I've seen live as much as Battles actually hahaha

I guess you couldn't really compare them sonically. I see them more as two distinct manifestations of artistic expression by different people/bands with similar experiences but vastly different world views.

Weird and pretentious, I know.

Hahaha not at all! In fact it's kind of refreshing to hear something like that instead of "they both have funny vocals" or something :)
