Awfully quiet...

Post by jrmy »

I'm hoping that this means Aen is plotting some truly devious devices for generating insane TONEZ. Because that means there will be more demo vids to oogle and ogle.

I think that picture of you holding the PCB needs to be the graphic for the ECD, Aen. It would inspire fear in the hearts of men, women and small animals.

spent an hour with a bunch of pedals in the loop of Mike's Salty Romance Explosion. The LFO is great to have tailing on the feedback and creating a new sorta drone sound. My favorite combo is to put the catalinbread v8 fuzz in the loop. Because the v8 can oscillate at higher fuzz levels, it creates a great range to interact with the feedback of the RXplosion. You can tune the RXplosion's depth to go back and forth between two pitches, rather than the one pitch of an oscillating pedal. Some careful tweaking can generate threw pitches. It can also do dying atari sounds, kinda like the random number generator but with more of the fundamental notes coming through initially. Altogether, this is a very fun pedal that will be a fixture on my board. High Recs!!

Nonetheless, I do have two questions, aen:
1) the lfo has a harsh peak, so when I am playing mellow stuff it feels a bit abrupt. I like how it creates a beat to follow, but I was wondering if there would be a good hack to shape the lfo wave as well, to adjust the peak for different applications?

2) the depth knob seems to be mostly interactive in the last 1/4 of the dial. I haven't opened the pedal to look, but is it a linear or log pot? I wondered if it was linear if I could change to log and have more range....your thoughts?

the LFO is a pretty brutal squarewave, and there are ways to smooth them out, but my experiments yeilded unsatisfactory results :idk: There may be ways that I'm not familiar with, too. On the HUrricane I had a dedicated LFO depth control which limits the amount of resistance it can put in the circuit, but it's still a harsh on/off square wave, just a shorter range.

One idea, that I just had would be to install a potentiometer on the LED's positive leg, making the brightness controllable, but this would also just kind of limit the range of the wave. this Rxplosion is kind of the "bare bones" version of The Hurricane. Actually, it's just teh stuff I would use on the hurricane, I prefer Rxplosion. But anyway...

A linear and log pot of the same value will have the same range, there will just be a more gradual change from 6 to midnight on the knob. I'm pretty sure I used a 500k log, but I oculd be wrong. 100k also usually works, but the bigger range will allow you to control huger signals, liek I don't know, something insanely loud.

ALSO! Keep in mind, faithful readers, whatever sounds kool in an RXplosion, will sound cool in a Spectacular Devi pedal, TBD, or Eye of God as well.

In other news, Analogue Haven said they want 20 Eau Claire Thunders. And then I shit my pants, becasue thats twice the usual quantity. Nevermind it being brand new...
