Nope, but any IC Muff will do the trick. That's Siamese Dream-era Corgantoanz for you (well, that, a Marshall, and a Strat with Lace Sensors).

Make that a Strat with blue/silver/red Lace Sensors. I recently swapped my Strat from an all gold Lace Sensor set-up to the blue-silver-red, and it is now much, much easier for me to cop those Corgan tones.

That's what I was thinking. I've never built a pedal. Do you think an IC muff with a scooped/flat mids switch would be too hard for a first build?

I'd start a bit smaller first. Maybe a Fingerprint or something. Who knows, though, I built a Small Stone as my first build.

Very true. I always found that I hated the Red in the bridge, but I can't deny that it sounded a bit closer than the Emerald I had there before.

Not sure that I like the red so much either, sounds real good with lots of gain but it kind of sounds like shit clean. I really like the blue and silver in the neck and middle positions though.

If I may ask, what did you end up with in the bridge position?

Do it. Around the same difficulty for beginners would be something Drawfcraft. The Great Destroyer is dead simple (6 parts on board, 4 pots) and the Shiva's not too hard, either.

I really want to get into building pedals but I suck at soldering. Like.. horrendously bad soldering skills. I just don't know what to practice on

I've only tried soldering once and that was to replace the bridge pickup on my SG (pretty stupid of me to try that on my $G $tandard haha). It works and sounds fine but looks horrible and will probably stop working at some really inconvinient time. If I posted a picture it would be embarassing.

In my Strat I ended up with a Silver. Silvers in all positions, actually. You'd be surprised how kick ass it sounds. It's not my main guitar, but for Corgan-style it can't be beat.

To be honest I wasn't going for the Corgan sound necessarily, I found the gold Lace Sensors to be too low output for me, but I wanted to keep my Strat Plus somewhat close to stock so I went for the blue/silver/red instead. My Strat was my main guitar until I got a G&l ASAT, changing the pickups in my Strat was my attempt for it regain main axe status, I like it more with the new pups, but it's still not my number one. I like the blue in the neck a lot, and I really like the silver in the middle, so I might just try swappping the red in the bridge for a second silver.

quality is all relative in this business. even if the construction is average at best it is still priced more reasonably than a lot of the other boutweakers out there.

as for the siamese stuff. if you know what you're doing you can get the sound with any muff. for years people have sworn it was the green muff which is the total opposite of the IC muff in terms of sound. IC muff is a cool pedal though.

i've built both versions of the muff that are in this pedal and it took a LONG time and that was without a blend/EQ so this is definitely a steal at $350 in my opinion... this, i hate to say, is like a Ferrari... not everyone should own it, and it should be coveted, and it will be abused by rich kids who's daddys let them drive it....

No shit. You can read comments from people on message boards from like 2009 when the Op Amp Muffs had no respect, then read posts on the same or different message boards presently or even just after Corgan SHOCKED THE WORLD and the same people are all aglow with the wonder of the Op Amp.

I just won a V5 Op Amp Muff off ebay (the one with the Tone Bypass instead of the "On/Off") and it does sound absolutely beautiful. It is certainly a sound that I've been wanting for a long time. I'm also happy because it has nothing to do with Corgan (not a fan of much beyond Siamese Dream, and that's only a little), as he used a V4, and that's the MAGICAL MUFF, whereas the V5 is still the black sheep of the clan. Anyway, I get more of a nice buzzy distortion with mine; I know Corgan puts his Sustain/Distortion at maximum, but I like to keep it pretty low. I also can't stand Strats, and have never used a Marshall.

Thus... I have my own sound!

Here I must recommend Made By Mike pedals... http://www.madebymike.co.uk If you want an IC Muff with a tone bypass, hit this cat. I think he could do a mids bump, too, if you wanted. Lots of custom stuff too... I had an order with him for the IC Muff, but then I won the real deal on eBay, and he was nice enough to say "Ain't no thang" when I decided I would forego his clone. Good dude.

I also think a lot of that is just the application that the pedal was used for.
If you want to sound like Pink Floyd and have sustain for days, then your best bet was a Rams Head or Civil War Muff.
The IC Muffs sounds like neither of those so I think that was a big part of the disappointment with them.

But when people realized that they could sound like the 90s with one, players with completely different musical interests started buying them and really enjoying them.
I know there is definitely a degree of hype surrounding them too which is why the prices are higher now, but its just the same as the anti-hype that kept the prices low for all those years.
