The first time I heard about the U-Bass, it was: "hmm..." *sees price tag* NOPE
Solid body? Blehhh...
It's cool in the same way that electric Les Paul-lookalike ukuleles are cool. Which is, like, cool if you bring it out to play some incredibly cheesy tune to all your friends who also happen to worship Hitchhiker's Guide to the Galaxy. And also they're high schoolers who drink coffee all the time. Because they totally need coffee. I guess that's cool.

I'd like to try one out at a store (but apparently they're out of stock nearly everywhere) to see what the hype is about. They look to be easier to play than the old Ashbory basses that after a couple of minutes, your fingers just stuck to the strings.
The pricetag isn't that bad on the acoustic; it's getting up there on the solid body one (MSRP on the Kala site is $1,200?!).

I didn't realize the solid body cost that much....that is a bit out of line.....the hollow body is more reasonably priced.
Yeah the acoustic one doesn't have enough of a sound chamber to give you the volumez. The electric doesn't have the same problem, obviously, but it misses out a little on the random acts of jamz scale 'cuz you have to plug it in--wonder how it would sound through a fuzzhugger pipe amp? I think it'd be cool if they went with a single-cut design--it's not like you need the long upper horn to avoid the neck divez.
Also, the intoanationz?

Right. Plus, the demo of the solid body one really didn't make me interested. It sounded really floppy and thuddy, especially when Hutch was trying to hit some of the dead notes he was playing. I would've liked to hear an actual U-Bass clip, especially if he plays one as much as mentioned.
