other fuzz like Seppuku Octave Drone?

Post by grindonomicon »

Since looking this pedal up after seeing / missing one on BST, I've gone back to the demo vid a few times... The Seppuku site doesn't list the pedal, the dealers are all out of them. What are some other fuzz pedals that bring that harsh noisy octave or ring mod fuzz like this? My fuzz is all muff variants, and a DE Cherry Pop. Have a Shoegazer on the way, but that seems more lo fi on the TP side, and like the Cherry Pop on the SM side. The Octave Drone just has some nasty sound to it that really catches my ear...

The Torn's Peaker sounds pretty similar.

Judging by the Seppuku fx Page demos... if it's any DE catalogue octave fuzz we're talking abot, I'd say rather the Destructo Noctavia, that resembles the blistering octave up the most, noisy as hell, and sounds to me it goes beyond the DBA Octave Clang. Torns SPeaker trebly character sounds to my ear close in some some milder settings, is a noisy bastard too, but doesn't do the harsh octave at all so...

Fuzzhugger Upper has a pretty distinct, nasty octave up, I'd suggest considering that. Perhaps with the Torn Speaker in loop it'd probably saw Your cab in two. :animal: The Phantom Arcade does octave up too but I don't think it sounds the same.

And Mellowtone Trumpet fuzz covers at least one corner of the Octave drone, pretty nicely too, I'd say :thumb:

What else... there's a many, many octave fuzzes out there but yeah, the Octave Drone sure is/was a nasty ripping one.

But if You really want the exact tone, are they really that hard to come by? Search the interwebz, I'm pretty sure one will pop up somewhere, in a few months.

Actually, the SG with both sides on gets sorta there. Not the ring mod-y stuff, but the intense octave up stuff.

Sweet, I will try the Shoegazer when I get it. Just shipped today... And I'll check the pedals Bassus listed.

If not, I'll hunt for one between recs when I might have the $$, or send my soon-to-be-spawned army of theavondon clones to scour the world.

Apparently the new Space Fuzz from Seppuku is a modified octave drone.

I have a Foxx Tone Machine clone from Rythym & Denotation that sounds a lot like that.

I also have a Torns Peaker which sounds nothing like that.

Yep, basicly, it shouldn't have anything to do with that. TP doesn't do the octave or even -ish fuzz at all, BUT has piercing noisy trebly character with resemblance at some milder octave drone settings. :idk: With an Upper, perhaps, like I said it might do the same trick - though I doubt it will sound exactly the same.

That sounds exactly like the destructo noctavia I had a long time ago (pro tip: that is not a good first pedal)
