$2300 guitar mad money - what would you buy?

Post by Zounds Perspex »

So it looks like I'm going to sell my blackface Vibrolux soon, and am planning to put the proceeds towards some cool guitar.
I'm undecided on what that guitar should be, though! I've been wanting a Les Paul, but all of them that I've tried have just felt really terrible.
Gibson doesn't seem to be making much of a quality product these days.
So what do you think, dudes? What would be radd?
I have a killer Strat and a killer Tele, and a decent cheap axe with 'buckers. What's next?
Maybe partying will help.

An SGV-300 or -800
spend the rest on pedals

I never buy pedals when I get a lump sum like this because...well, because I can afford a pedal or two a month anyway, but I don't have $2000+ that I can throw into a guitar more than once or twice a year.
Maybe partying will help.

Just because you have $2300 to spend doesn't mean you have to spend it all. Don't look to maximize your purchase, look for something different that would really like and within your range. Ever consider a baritone?

If you have a strat and a tele and a humbucking "axe", I would get one with P90s. I'm kind of in the same boat minus having $2300 .

Dude, if I had that cash, I would not hesitate buying an Electrical Guitar Company instrument.

You should be able to find an awesome Les Paul with that kind of money, maybe a used custom or old standard if you don't like the current Gibson offerings.

Or go with a Firebird. Reverse or non-reverse, mini-humbuckers or P90s, doesn't really matter, they all rock.

God, I would love a Bilt. What is their pricing like? I've no clue.

*edit* upon researching, it seems like one would be within my budget. option D, definitely.

I would go with a semi-hollow, probably an ES-335 style. I would look at used Hamer, Heritage and Yamaha for sure, and of course Gibson. I'm sure there are a few good Gibsons out there if you look hard enough...
